  • Cool weather cooking, oh how I love thee!

Today I'm commencing cool weather cooking! The temperuature is dipping and the oven is back on. I'm kicking off the season with braised lamb shanks. OMG. My house smells unbelievalbe. I don't cook much in the summer. DH mostly grills. It's his season and he loves it. Beer in hand, grilled fired up and wife watching kids. Hehe. The oven is on, house smells deelish and DH is bouncing the baby down while I cook dinner. Yay! He kept asking, "Are you sure you don't want me to grill something for dinner?" I'll never teach him how to turn on the stove. I love all the flavors and smells of slow cooking.

Has anyone else kicked off the oven season?

And on the original subject, SO glad cold weather cooking season is here!! I'm on a no flour - no sugar diet so that inhibits my baking but I'm really looking forward to making a giant pot of chili this week!

I got all excited last weekend, declared it the start of soup season, grocery shopped for casseroles and slow cooking and soups, swapped out Mattie's clothes (and promptly gave everything away), and it's been in the upper 70's and 80's ever since.

Also love, but I never wait for cool weather, or I'd hardly get to cook at all.
