Wow, thanks for the link, Poky. After reading that, I think we will switch when it comes time for our renewal (which I sadly think is still like 10 months away)!

        Love Costco.

For cereal I would check the price per ounce. Cereal goes on deep sales at the grocery store, but still check per ounce. I don't feel like I'm being ripped off.

Cheri living where u are u will have no problem with produce. Get ready for delicious produce!!!! Fresh!!! The Costco produce always is great for us...

We go to Costco a lot (it's my main store) and we always get back more $ in our executive rebate than we spend on membership. I think if you average $400 a month in purchases there you will break even. We end up with usually a $300 or so rebate check.

        Love Costco! Have fun!!

Kirkland olive oil and Kirkland soy milk. I think my DH goes exclusively for the samples... :/

How could I forget Tillamook cheese, Kirkland olive oil, and Kirkland balsamic vinegar?

Costco will also refund you the difference between the additional cost of executive membership and the rebate you get at the end of the year. Just in case you don't spend enough to make the executive membership worthwhile.

As for the cereal, yes, I do compare the price per ounce and I can do better in the grocery stores and at drug stores. I think MrsK and I can start a couponing club. Now the fruit is excellent, I'll give you that, but too often I've seen the same exact Driscoll's package of strawberries that they sell in grocery stores only at much higher prices at Costco. *shrug* I know some people don't like Walmart, but at least here they also have beautiful produce and they price match. Sorry for the hijack.

I don't think anyone has mentioned (but can't believe it) the food made from yesterday's chicken! They only sell the broasted chicken fresh, so the next day, they turn it into awesome chicken salad, enchiladas, and all kinds of other yummy stuff. They have the best bakery cakes to order (they're huge, so really only for a party). The detergent that is dye-free, fragrance free is tide free and clear (I can't tell you how I know, but I do), and their diapers are the same as Huggies supreme. So much of their house-brand stuff is rebranded from really great brands. I just heard a rumor that the vodka is Grey Goose, but haven't tried it myself and don't know from a source inside the industry.

Every time I step into Sam's, I hope that our move comes sooner and that it will be my last Sam's club visit!

We rarely go anymore, because it's a zoo there.
I bought Hanna Anderson PJs for M, and I've gotten HA leggings there for her as well.

I find their berries to be hit or miss, and rely on friends or family to tell me if they're good or not.

We used to buy meat there, when we had a giant refrigerator in Palo Alto. But now we have a small fridge, so I don't have much space for storing frozen food.

I do like buying chanterelles there in the fall, and portabellas, too!

Have fun exploring your new town, and don't forget to try microbrews and Thomas Kemper root beer. My favorite!

Yeah, the Tillamook cheese isn't going to be as big a deal for Cheri right now, but when you move back away from the PNW, you'll be glad if you're near a Costco that you can get it.

Alison, when we didn't have enough freezer space for all our Costco stuff...we bought a chest freezer at Costco. It's in our basement, now, stuffed full of Costco frozen chicken breasts and veggies and pizza (their 4-pack cheese pizza is pretty good for a quick easy meal, doctored up with our own toppings), etc.

And I concur about TK root beer.

I've seen Thomas Kemper at Costco, but only in a variety pack with cream soda and berry(?). If it were just rootbeer, I'd be so screwed--I love the stuff!

Poky, I'm pretty sure we'll have to get a chest as dd gets older. We live so close to a QFC that I can pick up things as I need them. Still, the deal on chicken breasts at Costco is hard to pass up!

I was going to say similar. But while we're on the topic, my sister raves about Tillamook ice cream and yogurt. So try those too.

The Kirkland beer is Saranac - quite good, but your sophisticated beer drinking guests will laugh at you. (I assume it's the same for kirkland single malt scotch - I heard it's the same as MacSomethingorother)
Diapers - huggies are a bit cheaper than kirkland, unless there's a coupon.
Tropicana OJ - the containers are still 64 oz at costco, while they've shrunk at the supermarket, so it's tough to compare prices.
But unless the supermarket is having an amazing sale, costco is cheaper.
                            Mornignstar Farms black bean burgers.
                            Edy's frozen fruit bars.
Raisinettes, cashews, trail mix (very dangerous - I eat quite a bit of it on the way home in the car...)
                            Mens' socks
I bought a large box of sparklers (48 boxes of 5 each!!!) and let the kids go nuts on july 4.
Various yard tools - cheaper than Lowes.
Compact fluorescent light bulbs - in CT there's a rebate which makes them almost free. Dunno about other states.

The drawback is all these people who seem to plan their lunch/dinner around costco, and will turn or stop their enormous carts suddenly to access one of the free samples. I try to stay away from Costco at mealtimes for this reason.

DH buys ant and weed killer there too. Cheaper than Home Depot.

                                Oh, yes, definitely!

In fact, if you're anywhere near a winco, the one near us *regularly* put tillamook yogurt on crazy sales (like less than $.40 per, every couple weeks); we would stock up. We ate a lot of yogurt once we figured that one out.
