LOL! Add me to the list of has tried and doesn't mind Spam. Mom would occasionally fry it for sandwiches or serve it with eggs for breakfast. I haven't had it in ages, though. DH would die if I tried to feed it to him!

        I've never tried it.

I guess I just don't understand it. It's expensive! More expensive than fresh or frozen meat. So I guess I don't understand why people would buy it except to stock up for some type of emergency/disaster.

Don't know how they came up with that recipe! But I do have to say I love a good spam, egg, and cheese on an English muffin sandwich. I even introduced DH to spam during some middle of the night breakfast craving back in college. The good old days - hahaha!

Am I really the only one who seriously thought the recipe didn't look all that bad? It's no fine dining, but it looks like comfort food to me for those days when you don't give a damn about what the scale says. Or about your blood pressure considering all the salt that's in SPAM.

I've never had it, but my grandma speaks highly of it. She also talks fondly of something called "potted meat". (It's near the SPAM...it didn't look too appetizing)

Gmail has oodles of SPAM recipes!! I don't know where they get them all.

Potted meat is similar to pate, if not the exact same thing. I think it might be a tad saltier than pate, but maybe I tried the wrong kind. Pate is pretty popular in Romania (usually spread on a slice of bread), but I don't see it much around here.

Oooh, MILK is visiting next week and I'm stressing out about meals already. If I cook, she'll hate my cooking. If I let her cook, she'll hate my kitchen. If we go out, she'll complain that I don't cook. I'm so screwed.

That makes it easy then...you will piss her off no matter what you do, so you may as well make whatever you want and not bother stressing. (yeah, I know, easy to say, not easy to do!!)

Well, I think I'm not alone in being willing to send you a can of Spam if you'd make this and tell us her reaction!

I say do what you want and upon the first complaint tell her you've instituted a rule that your home is a complaint-free zone. If she needs to complain, you invite her to stay elsewhere (realizing, of course, that this will be in noway effective). I have to say, I wasn't a huge fan of my in-laws, but reading your posts has made me realize just how lucky I have it! I am so sorry you have to deal with her in your home again!

Hee hee. I don't think I have the balls to deliberately make a bad meal. I've actually menu planned 3 daily meals and snacks for the visit including entrees like artichoke stuffed chicken. My problem is that the K family favorites are things like spaghetti and tacos which she will not eat and I really don't want to make chicken every night. Every time she cooks, she makes the same thing (chicken & grapes) so I don't even know what else she'll eat. And please shoot me if I have to eat chicken and grapes again.

Wait a tic... you actually MAKE A MENU PLAN for her? I nominate you for sainthood.

I usually menu plan dinner for my familyt anyway. But I plan around what's on sale, what I have coupons for, what's already in our pantry or freezer. I generally don't plan breakfast which is usually cereal or fruit and I don't plan lunch (leftovers) or snacks (whatever). The menu planning keeps me on budget at the grocery. The frustrating thing is that now I'm planning meals around what I think she might eat, double checking to make sure I have applesauce, going outside my budget, and I'll be stuck with stuff my family won't eat (applesauce) because she's going to turn her nose up at it.

I can't help myself. I'm a compulsive good girl and I know I'll come away from this visit disappointed and hurt.
