Maybe it's the dreary winter, maybe it's something else going on in our lives. But I think it's time we all think about RELAXING. I'm going to share my favorite new drinks. Join in! Alcohol or not. Let's inspire each other to take a moment for ourselves with a relaxing beverage.
My favorite new alcoholic beverage is a St. Germain G&T OR a St. Germain Martini. St. Germain is an elderflower liquer that comes in a very pretty bottle, and is perfect for girls' nights. It's a citrusy and floral, and nice and sweet. Martini = 2 parts gin or vodka, 1 pt St. Germain, and a twist. For a Gin & Tonic, make it the way you usually do (2 pts Tonic to 1 pt Gin, or as DH makes them, half and half!) and add a friendly splash of St. Germain. And a twist/wedge of lemon.
Honestly, I'm usually a wine or tea drinker but a few times a year I really like getting a bottle or two of booze and making cocktails. This weekend I'm planning on dirty vodka martinis, extra olives. Because I'm feeling salty.
Alright, that's me. Anybody else have a recipe for relaxation?
Sitting at the bar at a really hip restaurant the other night this older couple / woman next to me ordered a glass of wine with Creme de Cassis! I had to ask her what she was drinking. She said it cuts the edge off of mediocre wines, and even let me taste! I'm definitely going to explore that one further.
As per usual I've been drinking red wines for winter. We have a somewhat formidable liquor collection but I make myself cocktails probably less than once a month. If I want a margarita I'll go around the corner where the bartender knows just how I like it!

Keeping the Zombie thread going!!
Pina Colada
1/2 cup cream of coconut
8 oz. crushed pineapple
1/4 cup silver rum. you can use dark rum for richer flavor, but it'll tint the normally snow white drink.
Optional, but a nice touch - a few pinches of sweetened shredded coconut.
Blend together, then add about 3 cups ice and blend until smooth. (makes a small pitcher)
Bourbon Manhattan
2 oz good bourbon (I recommend Buffalo Trace or Maker's Mark)
1/2 oz vermouth (sweet, dry, or a combo 'perfect')
splash of maraschino cherry juice
Shake with ice, pour into martini glass. Garnish with a cherry
Moscow mule
1.5 oz. vodka
squeeze of lime juice
ginger beer
fill a copper mug with ice, squeeze lime over ice.
add vodka, then ginger beer to mix everything together.
