Wow. What a pleasurable book. This book returns to the same small English town as the Pillars of the Earth, only two hundred years later in the middle ages. (1300-ish). Don't let the size of the book scare you off, it is easy to read and hard to put down. If you enjoy epic novels or historical fiction, this is a great choice. This story is set against the backdrop of the bubonic plague, power struggles within the Catholic church, the building of a major bridge, as well as universal themes of good versus evil and unrequieted love.
