I searched for a thread on this book series. Anyone? Anyone?

My niece purchased this for me for Christmas because of my nerdy devotion to another cult young adult series, Harry Potter.

After receiving this odd gift, I researched the reviews on the Twilight series on GoodReads.com before ever cracking this book. I'm not exactly a fan of the horror and/or vampire genre.

After some initial research, I decided that I clearly would NOT become a swooning fan of some teenage vampire romance. Puhlease. I'm a woman of the world, far too cultured to get swept up in some popularly marketed bit of pablum romance with a horror twist. Besides, my nerd-ometer is already of the charts. I couldn't succumb to any more evidence of geekiness.

Needless to say, I finished the first 400 plus page novel in a single night. I could. not. put. it. down. This book is unrequited love on crack. It is sexy and innocent in the same time. I heart Edward.

I have to admit what I am. I'm off to join legions of teenage girls who *heart* the Twilight series.

      Re: Twilight

Oh my gosh, Kelly, I am so glad to read your post. My middle school girls have been NUTS about this series. It was almost scary how many of them were reading it and how engrossed they became. When we went to KS for that funeral, I bit the bullet and asked my 8th grade girls' choir if I could borrow the first book from someone. I ended up buying the second one in KS for the drive home, borrowed the third when I got back to school on Monday, and bought the 4th because my "source" wasn't finished with it yet and I couldn't stand to wait.

I didn't think I would like the books AT ALL.....so not my genre. I was totally sucked in. Enjoy!

        Re: Twilight

I have to admit, I LOVE Twilight as well. My sisters kept telling me to read them and I thought they were so silly for being obsessed with these books, but I could not put them down. I am finishing the third one and even though I have the forth one on hold at the library I think I am going to have to go buy it because I can't wait to read it.

Yep...I picked it up because of students as well. I was curious about all of the hype and I couldn't put it down either. I haven't seen the movie and I will probably skip it...Host is pretty good as well...

            Re: Twilight

My niece absolutely insisted I read it although I'm not into vampires and needless to say I'm not a teenager, but I gave in and figured I'd chalk it up to a bonding experience. Ha! I couldn't have been more wrong. I couldn't put it down and became an addict and she became my dealer. I'm a couple chapters away from finishing the 4th one and I'm bummed that it's only been 2 weeks and I'm done with the series. I'm now concerned about the withdrawls I'll be going through. Maybe I'll have to get my fix by seeing the movie which I've been told was a disappointment.

Am I the only one who was way less than impressed? Read the whole series, and the comparisons to work as wonderful as Harry Potter are patently blasphemous. I thought for sure there was a thread on this.

I had to get the book because I'm a young adult FREAK.

I'm 30 pages in and have no opinion yet other than I look forward to reading time.

More when I'm done with the first one...

I read this series obsessively just before the holidays. Then I watched the trailer ten times. I havent seen the movie yet but I want to. I was so sad when it ended bc I missed the characters so much. My mom and sister read the first two over the holidays while I was with them and it was awesome to have someone to talk to about it.

Edited to add: "young adult LITERATURE" freak.

I'm done. I really enjoyed the first book and will read the rest -- probably by the end of the month if I know myself.

IMHO, Books 1 and 4 are the best. Book two is fun because a seriously hawt character is introduced. (I figure it is o.k. to talk like a 15 y.o. because we're talking about teen lit, right?)

AHHHH!!! I have been bitten (no pun intended ) by the Twilight bug. I just finished Twilight and literally ran out to the bookstore here in Mass (we are at the in-laws while DH interviews in Boston) and bought the rest of the series. I look forward to DS breastfeeding because that is when I get the most reading done. I feel like such a smitten teenager I have finally found my HP replacement.

Why can I not manage breastfeeding and reading at the same time?? All I do is play Mario Kart or watch DVR'd episodes of the West Wing. Something is wrong when I can play Mario Kart (quite well, I might add -- my kids think I'm cool) while bf'ing but not read ....
