Also, prepare to be hungry. He can go on for pages about the food... Yum!
The series needs a complex primary, secondary, and tertiary/periphery character chart. SERIOUSLY.
The guy loves developing tons of characters.

Still trying to get my hands on 'Dragons'... Argh!

I actually did keep a character chart because I started to get lost. If you do read the series, take notes. And don't try to juggle that one with several other books (as I usually do)... it will seem REALLY confusing when you pick it up again. :O

I loved reading it on Kindle. It was so much easier to search for characters. If you have an iPhone, there's a Game of Thrones Companion app that you can adjust to prevent spoilers based on how far you've read in the series. It has characters, houses, maps, places, and religions. Very helpful!

I read that back in the day before smartphones... kept notes on paper. I need to reread them though, I am positive I missed so much racing through them (and I haven't read the recent one).

DH got me hooked on Game of Thrones on HBO. But should I even read the first book? DH read the books and said the series is very accurate. I really want to read them.

I actually got a little confused on the last episode. I cannot imagine the confusion I would have from the book.
