Definitely not, I plan on sticking to this thread until the bulk of people have read it...I am hesitant to discuss too much so as to avoid spoilers, but I am loving this book. It is a fantastic read. I'm glad I'd asked for "The Secret History" for Christmas, I would like to read Tartt's debut novel and have heard great things about that as well.

The writing actually inspired me to start using the highlight function on my kindle to track my favorite passages and vocabulary words. I was actually thinking of starting another thread for those of us who always read with a pen/pencil in hand or use the highlight function to mark things that stand out to us and share some of our favorites from this book.

That's a great idea! Up until this point I've used the IPAD Books app, and really don't like that I can't cut and paste selections. I was always that nerd who lay in bed with a book, my journal, and a pen, ready to copy down favorite quotes. For this reason I still have a box of old journals I can't get rid of.

I was thinking about starting with a system of questions about the book -- I haven't looked back to see how much you guys are talking but maybe in a week or two we can start discussing major themes or something. What do you think?

Finished this today! It is definitely a book that I never would have picked up on my own but I really enjoyed it.

My goal is to finish today. ~75% done. Adult Boris is much less likeable than wayward teenage Boris, who I found to be colorful and quirky. Adult Boris? -_-

Unrelated to the actually story: did anyone else Google a picture of Donna Tartt and find yourself completely thinking "yep, of course that's what she looks like" after seeing her picture? I don't know, but about halfway through I was thinking of the author as a writer and started to picture her in my head, what the person who wrote this book and has this writing style may look like. And yep, she looks almost exactly like I'd anticipated. Don't know if that's a good or a bad thing!

I went ahead and started a separate thread in which I've shared some of my favorite quotes and passages so far. I haven't discussed much about why I liked each one, but perhaps we can start a discussion about ones people have in common.

On my first read-through I'm speed-reading so I don't think any specific passages are jumping out at me.

It turns out my Kindle app has a function that calculates how much more time is left to read the rest of the book? It's a funny number to watch jump around! Apparently I have about seven and a half more hours of reading.

I'm still not very far in. I am listening to the audio book, so it takes longer than reading it would anyway, but man this sucker is LONG!!! It is 4 parts of about 8 hours a piece. I listen to a fair number of audio books, and this is by far the longest one I have listened to. This may take awhile.

How's it going, readers? I finished early last week, but was waiting to initiate conversation since I know many haven't finished. Let's not let the discussion fall by the wayside - that's the point of the book club! Share your thoughts and I'll share mine (I am hesitant to share too much because I don't want to reveal any spoilers).

MrsK for a second I thought: "how is it possible that I finished before her - she was about a third of the way in when I started!" but then I remembered...you sort of had that whole "giving birth/bringing home a newborn" thing happen so, duh, your reading took a backseat
