Excellent book. The characters are amazing. The story is great and it actually made me feel better about the world situation today when considered in light of recent alternatives in Afghanistan. Also, it is one of those books that makes you aware of how lucky we all are in this country. There are so many good themes in this book, I can't begin to mention them all. I had to keep reminding myself it was fiction....it reads like a memoir. Anyone else read it?

I just finished this, wow...what a fantastic read!! I woke up in the middle of the night a few days after reading it (pregnancy insomnia, I guess ) and couldn't stop thinking about all of the different themes and characters. I also kept forgetting that it was a piece of fiction. Someone told me that the teenage son of a friend of hers read it, said that it changed his life, and promply turned around and made both of his parents read it too. It's that good.

I concur, it is that good! I read it in one day and could not put it down. I also kept forgetting that it is fiction, but I think it might give a somewhat accurate about what has been going on in Afghanistan over the last 30 year. The subject matter is depressing and at the same time fascinating. Definitely worth reading!

Just finished it. It kept my ADHD at bay quite a bit, too. However, I could only read one chapter at a time so it took me forever. (I tend to get overly emotional sometimes when reading and this one had that effect.)

            Definitely a good read.

I read it during my "just moved" reading binge. I also thought it read like a memoir (funny how you thought James Frey's DIDN'T read like a memoir). I also kept marveling at how I wouldn't have known how to pronounce the names of the various cities involved if I'd read it in 2000.

              V. good book.

                  The Kite Runner

This is not the feel-good book of the year, but the story is wonderful. I had just finished The Grapes of Wrath before picking this up and have been enjoying more light-hearted material since.
I think I may have liked it more if I were better prepared to become so vested in the story. Very touching, very well written. A must-read in this day and age.

O.K. I did it. I finally read this one. This is one of the great books. It is my personal goal to get someone else to read this book. It is beautiful on so many levels, and a great story to boot.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

i just finished it this morning. i stayed up until 2am reading it...then forced myself to put it down with only a few chapters left. i had a hard time falling asleep knowing there was only a bit left....and i could NOT stop thinking about the characters.

it was sad, wonderful, beautiful. it took my breath away, made me tear up, and made me smile.

                              loved it.
