It's the biography of Edith Piaf, the famous French singer. It was generally well-done although there were parts of it that didn't exactly flow and other parts that I felt needed to be fleshed out more (or maybe I wanted them to be fleshed out more)
It's mostly done in flashback as she reviews her life as she's sick. She was an addict of the first degree but once you see the crap that she dealt w/ as a child, it sort of all makes sense. (like the most stable part of her life was being raised by her paternal grandmother in a brothel)
It's in French w/ subtitles.
My husband played online poker while I watched it- it was a foreign sub-titled chick flick w/ singing- definitely one of his circles of hell.
I recall there was some Oscar buzz about this movie, too. the lead actress was amazing.
