  • La Vie en Rose

It's the biography of Edith Piaf, the famous French singer. It was generally well-done although there were parts of it that didn't exactly flow and other parts that I felt needed to be fleshed out more (or maybe I wanted them to be fleshed out more)

It's mostly done in flashback as she reviews her life as she's sick. She was an addict of the first degree but once you see the crap that she dealt w/ as a child, it sort of all makes sense. (like the most stable part of her life was being raised by her paternal grandmother in a brothel)

    It's in French w/ subtitles.

My husband played online poker while I watched it- it was a foreign sub-titled chick flick w/ singing- definitely one of his circles of hell.

I recall there was some Oscar buzz about this movie, too. the lead actress was amazing.

I'll say it again, we would so make good film buddies! I used to go by myself to a place called Mother Bears in Bloomington IN , and watch subtitled films...this sounds like a movie that would be shown there!

OMG, the little sparrow. I love her music. One of my favorite vinyls is Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel. When I was in Paris I went to the gravesite of Abelard & Eloise (beaytiful love story), and not far away was Edith Piaf (near Brahms). That cemetary was history itself. I actually sat on Oscar Wilde's tomb and ate my lunch. Do any of you still want to claim me as a "friend"?

You might be on to something there. On Thur nights I am an NBA widow. If Rick's on line on Thur nights maybe we can try to do a DVD Art Film Club?? Maybe after the first of the year! What do you think?
