I haven't seen it in a long while, but I hated the way he treated his daughter. I felt bad for her.

Now I must check to see if it is still on and watch an episode. I think I saw only one, when they were making a Thanksgiving dinner perhaps?

Really? Never noticed, but I will be on the look out. Julia Child seemed to have him under control.

I don't like the new wave of everyone can cook. I like the watch me cook people!

You're not alone. I like the people who can do things I absolutely can't but they're so far above my head I don't think I learn nearly as much from them.

Alton Brown is absolutely my favorite and my cooking has improved most because of him.

Is no one going to mention the monstrosity that is Sandra Lee? I'm not exactly a home gourmet and even I'm appalled by her.

The times I saw it he was painfully patronizing to her. It was like "Am I doing this right, Papa? Please approve of me!" "No! Stupid girl! Let me do it. :tsk: " Maybe they've improved their onscreen dynamic.

DH & I LOVE Alton Brown. I swear we have around 15 episodes of Good Eats on our DVR. He's a goofball but he also mixes in science which is neat.

Sandra Lee is awful - I can't understand how she got her own show. (She only has one right?) On one of the Semi-Homemade episodes, she "made" pumpkin cheesecake. She bought both a pumpkin pie and cheesecake from the grocery store, took the filling out of both, mixed them together and put them in a ready-made pie crust. WTF?

Gross! I haven't seen Sandra Lee in action. How about Paula Deen? I think I watched a few minutes of her. Yikes.

Paula Deen. That was the name I was looking for. Yikes, is right.

Do you like the Barefoot Contessa? I'm on the fence about her. Could go either way.

I liked her a whole lot better when I only recognized her picture from the cookbooks (like the first three, so-so on the french one).

She has this weird breathy way of speaking and laughing. Is she asthmatic? Trying to seduce her viewers?

I will have to watch Sandra Lee sometime after hearing so much about her. Some comments from a foodblog I look at:

Sandra Lee is fun to watch in the last 5 minutes of each show, because she loves her booze! Watch her make her “mixed drinks you’ll love” … she puts so much liquor in them, one sip could stop a horse! And by the final credits, she is slurring her words and hanging onto anything in sight, and trying desperately to say, “And remember .. keep id shimple … keep it shem-eye ho-mmmmade” with her eyes crossed and her hair slightly askew. It’s hilarious!

I have to admit that PD reminds me a lot of my favorite aunt (who's from the central-IL redneck branch of the family) and she gets an unfair free pass from me. But objectively I know she's encouraging America to an early grave.

My family was gathered at my parents' for my brother's 27th b-day. We were talking about the cake and my mom mentioned that it was made from a Paula Deen recipe. My brother looked at it very warily and said "Oh God! Does it have mayonnaise in it??" (It did not, but it was very rich.)
