        Today I started Insanity

Today I am multitasking with meal prep, laundry, cleaning and chauffeuring kids.

Today I have to be at a bonfire Girl Scout party and a surprise 30 yr anniversary party at the same time.

        • Today, I gutted 4 pumpkins and got 2 of them carved only to realize that I don't have any small candles.

Today, I went to Walgreens to find cheap lipstick for Halloween and they didn't have anything that I wanted (including candles).

Today, thanks to the iMSN brain trust, I decided to roast my pumpkin seeds in the crock pot. (Granola worked, why not this, right?) So far, so good. They are nearly done and I keep snitching them.

            • Today I'm a total zombie after being up with a sick doggie all night. Poor thing has diarrhea and had to be let out every 1-1.5 hours. I don't know how you moms do this all the time, seriously.

Today I'm kicking off Halloween week with my annual Nightmare Before Christmas viewing and candy corn consuming party (and of course by party I just mean me sitting on the couch with whichever animals aren't being assholes).

Today an electrician is supposed to be coming to look at the box on the outside of our house that is crooked and looks like it's about to fall off the house. That doesn't sound like a major fire hazard at all.... yikes.

                • Today, DD2 announced her decision to become a mechanical engineer specializing in nanotechnology and has set her sights on MIT. Um, ok.

Anyone have any good info on engineering programs? This is a new one for me and I'm clueless.

Wow, your girl is badass! My brother is in robotics and knows all about those programs, but I don't know how much crossover there is for good programs in both robotics and nanotech. He went to Northwestern for undergrad. He wasn't thinking of mechanical engineering when he chose it, but it worked out well... I can ask him some questions if you want.

                    • That would be awesome!

She's always been my math/logic/science kid and has a wicked quick mind. She awakened an obsession with engineering in middle school when she joined her school's Lego robotics (FLL) team. The new district doesn't have a FLL program, so I'm considering approaching the technology teacher to see if he's willing to coaching a team if we donate the kit.

I'll just give you the quick run-down right now. Northwestern has a very good robotics dept. and a super-fun annual robot competition. For PhD, he looked at MIT, Yale, Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, and I'm thinking maybe even Embry Riddle and GA Tech. He chose Stanford for the specific type of robotics that he was interested in. I can ask if he knows of good nanotech programs... any specific questions?

ETA: He says yes, he would choose NW again if he were looking at it from a purely ME perspective. He loved it. He said about 10 years ago NW was making a big effort to invest in nanotech, and he thinks they're still ahead of the curve.

                              • Another vote for NU engineering - although I'm a big proponent of finding the right fit for college

DH was a BME at NU and one of our closest friends did both his BS and PhD in Bio at NU and now owns a nanotechnology company that he started! I love love love NU and feel like an honorary alum
