    • Today I am up at 4:45 in the am to catch a flight to Austin for a wedding. I hope I can catch a nap on the plane. Otherwise I know the cranky is going to hit.

      • Today, I began potty training K2 (18mo) at his insistance. Or, rather, he's begun to train himself. He grabbed a book, went into the bathroom, took off his pants, sat down on the potty, and refused to get up until K1 offered to let him wear a pair of his underware. He's sitting across the table from me now eating a grilled cheese sandwich in K1's underware. So, now I've got one almost trained and one beginning to train. Have I mentioned that I hate potty training?

        • Today, I'm trying to get caught up on everything I've been missing on IMSN! I haven't been here in a while, due to a combination of traveling for the holidays, hand pain due to too much typing, and an attempt at reducing my Internet/screen time. I'm reading a book about the importance of humans' connection with nature and how disconnect from nature and excessive screen time are detrimental to our mental health. Argh.

Today, I took the beagle for an hour-long walk in the snowy woods, which is like heaven for him. I got so tired of trudging through the snow that at one point, i lay down in the field, feeling like a marshmallow in my winter gear and snowpants, and just held onto the end of the 20-foot leash while he ran and ran and ran around me.

Today, I put cocoa powder and sugar and extra cream in my coffee.

Today, SO and I began our day with 10 minutes of meditation, which we're trying to make a daily habit. We've both had anxiety lately, and mine got to a point where it was interrupting my ability to get through my daily routine. My plan for addressing it is kava kava tincture, daily meditation (even just 10 minutes does wonders), a month-long break from Facebook and depressing news stories, and reading happy children's and/or young adult novels, like the Secret Garden or the Children of Noisy Village. Also, more time in the woods and Epsom salt baths. This is my attempt to obviate the need for therapy and Ativan!!!

              • I got that cookbook for Christmas from my brother, giggled, and made the mistake of showing it to my parents. Mom, with dad looking over her shoulder: "Those recipes sound delicious! 'Cream-Slicked Chick', mmm!" Me: "Um, mom...mom, it's a parody. The recipe names are supposed to be...um, naughty." Oh, the awkwardness when they figured it out.

Yesterday, the heat went out for the second time this season. The repair guy can't get here till Monday at the earliest. Mmm, 58 degrees in the bedroom.

Yesterday, our family was dragged kicking and screaming into the smart phone era when DH's iPod (that he uses for a PDA and needs daily) died so he got an iPhone 5 and our first ever data plan. We agreed not to add my line to the data plan yet, so my hand-me-down iPhone 3gs is still not activated as a phone. And we still pay per text so we still don't really do that. Token resistance!

"He takes me from the fridge and lays me gently on my back on a platter. His fingers are so strong and commanding, and the alcohol is making me cocky. 'Does this mean you're about to make dinner with me?' I blurt. His expression is hooded. 'No, Chicken. First of all, I don't make dinner. I cook...hard.'"

                              • Tonight my Dr.H allowed me (after much begging) to come to the hospital with him to await a delivery of one of his patients that was being induced. Since we have 3 children and live an hour away from the hospital, I never come to the hospital. Our kids are away for the weekend with Grandma (which is rare) and it is the first time that I have been away from all of them for more than a day in 3 years. While I was very excited to come and be able to hang out with him at work and in the call room. It is just not as exciting as I thought it would be. Oh well, at least I am spending time with him.
