  • I feel for you Mrs. K.

Today, I am having just the teensiest bit of mommy guilt because I was OVERJOYED to send them both to school/daycare. I have had enough family togetherness recently.

I know I shouldn't laugh but that is so funny and cute! Does he seem to be catching on quickly since he's insisting on doing it?

He's doing pretty good. Personally, I'd really rather not be training an 18mo boy. I think it's too soon and I'm signing up for a longer term in purgertory since neither K1 nor either of my nephews figured it out before they were 3yo regardless of when they started. On the first day, he was awesome. Even had fewer accidents than K1 did that day and he was actually running over to sit on the potty when he had to go without my prompting him. Yesterday, K1 was home so he was distracted. I thought I'd enlist K1 as a cheerleader by rewarding them both when K2 pottied. It worked for a little while and he only had one accident yesterday. But he was holding it because he wanted to run around with his brother and just waited to pee in the diaper during meals and naptime. Today, I think the novelty has worn off. and the thing with the underpants really turned him off He went in the potty once this morning and then peed everywhere after that. Then he removed his diaper during naptime and peed in his bed. Tomorrow, he's back to school for the first time since last Thursday. I talked to his teacher about it. Obviously they cannot let him run around half-naked at school but she said I should send him in underware or pull ups and they'll take him to the potty every hour (they do diaper check every hour), see if he wants to keep trying. They've had some little girls start early in the past so they are just going to follow that protocol. I suspect he'll be distracted by the other children and since none of them are training yet, he'll be unwilling to potty. His class has 3 sets of twins and they were all preemies; he is developmentally ahead of all of them as the youngest set of twins that was born 13 weeks early are just getting the hang of walking. It's kind of a weird situation and the teachers keep referring to him as the oldest in the class although he is really the middle of the age group. I'll be surprised if he potties at school but, then again, he's surprised me so far.

            • Today DD had whole milk instead of breastmilk in her morning bottle. It was an experiment and we were prepared with breastmilk in case she freaked out but apparently she didn't bat an eye.

I want to cry and jump for joy at the same time. I love the idea of no more pumping but it means my little baby isn't a nursling for much longer.

Yes and no. Look at it as a bit of freedom. Yes, you may still have to pump on your business trips to maintain supply, but you don't have to worry about carting the EBM back.

Watching them grow up is so bittersweet. I still long for the closeness that nursing brings, but I have no desire to actually be nursing.

                • Today I am feeling disappointed. The sellers of the house we put an offer in on are totally unreasonable so we have to walk. I'm sad since I really liked it a lot. Can't reason with crazy.

                    Awww,

I get it. Along with refusing to wear diapers, K2 seems to have also abruptly given up nursing. (Oh, I ache!) He's cuddled with me but hasn't nursed in three nights. Yesterday, he asked to nurse just before naptime and I asked, "Really?" Then he responded, "Naaa" and laughed. I think this may be the end of babyhood for him.

                      • I think the second ones often grow up faster than the first. They race ahead to meet their siblings. *hugs* to both of you. You will have to be there for me (and Kris and Sally, I think) in short time when our oldest kids start heading off to college. *GAH!* Talk about bittersweet. The old saying is SO true. The days are long but the years are short. Try to enjoy these hectic times with little ones. They are over so quickly.
