  • Today my husband got up at 4:45 (new time) to go to a bicycle race. He figures he's going to race 48 miles with the over-thirty-five folks, and then a couple of hours later he'll race 60 miles with the whole mixed-age group, and then come home on something like a 6:45pm ferry (arriving home close to 8). He's a little disappointed I didn't feel I could get the kids up that early or stay out all day to go along and cheer him on, which bums me out, but C'MON. :\

    • Today we managed to make it to 8am mass. So what if I had to put my mascara on while DH was driving!

It went great!! And dh did such a good job of schmoozing with everyone ( way outside his comfort level
He even said he doesn't know how I do it.

              • Way to go Brandi!

Today, my children woke up at 5:20 -- Apparently, we set our clocks forward but my kids fell back. We were able to convince K1 to go back to sleep but K2 followed us around demanding pants and cheerios until we gave in.

                    • The best I could muster today was an apple pie from McDonalds. A far cry from my years teaching I did get a nice message from a former student on FB today, though!

                            • Well today has been interesting:
First thing this morning 2 of the dogs, killed a squirrel. Said squirrel managed to bite one of the dogs. So after disposing of the squirrel, cleaning blood off the dogs and calling the vet, we had no appetite for the breakfast I made.

Dh and I got our first pair of contacts today. I got mine in on the first try. The OD was impressed. Dh took 2 hours.

Man it has been a long day.

                              • Today, I had to run to Hobby Lobby with both kids. It had to be today, or it would be another week before I could get there. As we are walking through the parking lot, Sophie pulled free from my hand and dashes away. I ran after her, but had that weird moment of time both coalescing and telescoping at the same time. I finally reached her and grabbed her by the jacket causing both of us to stumble. I end up on one knee and she nearly face planted. When I looked up, there is a massive SUV coming down the row.

I got right down to her level and said firmly that she cannot do that, that she could get hurt, blah, blah, blah. Then I picked her up and carried her crying into the store. (Crying because she got told that since she didn't walk nicely in the parking lot she had to be carried.) We got into the store and she was still pitching a fit. I put her into the basket of a cart and she freaked out completely. It took several minutes and the threat of bodily hard for her to relent. I told her that if she didn't sit down I would take her into the bathroom and spank her. She resisted even more and I picked her up and started walking to the back of the store when she realized the jig was up and said she would sit nicely. We got so many looks from other customers.

I don't know how to parent a strong willed child. I just don't. It is so hard.
