  • Hello!

Hi, all! Allow me to introduce myself!

My husband and I married at the start of his third year of med school, and he's now a pathology PGY1 beginning his military medical career in a base hospital. (I'd prefer not to say which branch because while the medical community is small, the military medical community is much smaller!) But suffice it to say that we're happy with where we ended up and that the military has been good to us so far. (Let's hope it stays that way!!)

I have a B.S. in the natural sciences and a very eclectic work history, ranging from odd jobs during college to medical research for a few years after graduation. I'm currently and temporarily a high school science teacher. Oh, and a human incubator! I am 22 weeks pregnant with DH's and my first child. We're expecting a little boy! After DS is born, I plan to become a SAHM. I'm also "mommy" to several pets, including two dogs and four birds, all of whom are pretty much spoiled rotten but are wonderful to be around.

Well, that's me in a nutshell! I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!

    Re: Hello!

    Greetings!

Fellow military medical spouse here. We totally understand the desire for anonymity, especially at the beginning.

We do have other forums that are only accessible to those who have posted more than 50 times. (kind of guarantees the creeps and the lurkers and the people looking for dirt on doctors end up going away)

Stick around and get to know us!

    Jenn

(ps- I gave up on hiding- there are only 10 child neurologists in the Army anyway!)

          Re: Hello!

How cool that the first two ladies I meet are another military spouse and a fellow path wife!

Jenn-- I'm taking it there aren't too many other military spouses around here? I checked out the military board, and as you know, it's dead! Oh well. As for my trying to remain anonymous, I'll probably give up on that before too long, too. I think that I've already narrowed it down to just about a dozen people simply by saying DH is a new path resident!

Julie-- How have you enjoyed your DH's lifestyle during residency? I think it's great so far! DH rarely has to work more than 60 hours a week, and that's usually only when he's on surg path. Not bad at all for a lowly first year resident! Still, I know path wouldn't be my first choice of specialties. When I was doing research, I worked for a pathologist for a little while, and one of my worst memories is of hours spent at the damn cryostat churning out frozens! I despised cutting those things, and I wasn't too keen on peering through a microscope all day, either. I don't know how our husbands do it, but more power to 'em!

          Nice to meet you all!

Welcome, welcome! If you're 22 weeks now, does that make for a March baby? Fun!

            Stay and post often!

              Re: Hello!

I think there are probably 10 or so military spouses that post and/or lurk (that I know about) and we have a few who are former military. and a few whose spouses were in the military before embarking on the medical journey.

I don't know which we have fewer of- military spouses or path spouses1

Yep, EDD is March 21! I can't wait!

Oh, and your son is really adorable! (Cheri's little girl, too!) It looks like your next one and mine are going to be awfully close in age! Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?

Yup, yup, I always describe path as being over at the humane end of the residency spectrum. And I am genuinely glad of that on a regular basis. That limits me to only complaining about the being broke, the moving every few years, the having no control over what happens to us . . . the usual stuff. :P Seriously, though, I've caught a number of lucky breaks in the training process so far, and I consider pathology one of them. As you mention, it's not for everyone, so I'm glad my husband happens to like it.

And congratulations on your pregnancy, too!

Cool, I'm expecting this one to arrive mid/late February. The sex is a surprise, so I guess we'll know in a bit over three months.
