Introduction (and needing some support)

Hi there! I am also married to a nsg - in his last year of fellowship. There were certainly some rough years (and honestly I'm expecting quite a few after training as well), but it isn't all terrible. Maybe I've already forgotten about the worst years of residency... There would be rough patches with any specialty (or profession for that matter).

It does, however, take a LONG time. The upside of that is no moving for 7 years!

I'm also waiting to find out where we'll be going next year, so I totally understand what you're going through right now! No great advice on how to deal with that.... But there are many people here in the same situation, and it's nice to vent every so often.

To be totally, completely honest, I'd be spitting nails if my husband decided to try and match in NSG, but there is more than one NSG couple on this board that makes it work and I'm sure they will plenty to offer in addition to what they already have. Thank you all for your warm welcome and kind words. It is so nice to feel like I have support out there from people who truly understand what I'm going through. And to the NSG wives, an extra thank you for reassuring me that this can work. It sounds like I need to get my running shoes on and prepare for the marathon . . .

MarissaNicole, I like your motto. I've been trying to live by the motto "Embrace the struggle, enjoy the journey". It hasn't been easy as I'm a bit of a control freak and obsessive planner (the perfect storm for a wife waiting to match!). But as an earlier poster pointed out, no use worrying about things to happen (or not happen) in the future. Going to try to take it one day at a time . . .

MarissaNicole - So far DH is interviewing in/at Denver, Omaha, St Louis, Peoria IL, Houston, San Antonio, Galveston, Pittsburgh, Vermont, New York (Medical College), Winston-Salem NC, West Virginia, Virginia, and Chicago (Loyola). Nothing top tier, but that's ok! We're just glad he's getting interviews. If anyone has any input on any of these cities/programs, it would be appreciated. We already know what we're ranking #1 and likely #2, but after that, no clue. I've never even been to most of these places!

Sounds like a good list! I had never set foot in our residency location either until after match day, it all worked out. I'm pretty sure we have members in a lot of those. Good luck!

Our location happened to be the only one I did go to - so it could have easily been a surprise location instead I only have passing knowledge about some of those cities, and a lot of them are pretty different What type of city are you hoping for?
