  • So tired of training!

Hi, just joined the group and I wish I had found it years ago. We are in year 10(!) of training (4yr med school, 5yr Ortho residency, now 1yr trauma fellowship). I stay home with our 2 kids age 3 and 7months and we're 2000 miles from family and friends.

I can honestly say I'm about to lose it. You finish residency and then fellowship the hours are like a PGY-2! I never see him and when he's here he's so tired that most of the time he's asleep on the couch. I desperately need some encouragement. All through residency I managed to stay pretty positive but now I am just failing miserably. Resenting it all...

Welcome! Yes. The fellowship year sucks a bit. Especially if you moved for the one year.

Welcome. Just finished psych residency. Now he's talking about 12 or so years of psychoanalytic training. Shoot me.

Welcome, and big hugs! You are a saint for being so strong during that much training. You've come to the right place! Post often; looking forward to getting to know you.

Welcome to the group. We get it.

I hated that fellowship had no work hour rules, too.

Thanks everyone. Hubby is home and conked out on the couch after working 40 hrs straight.... Ugh

personally, i think life is a lot harder when the kids are young and you don't have help. i would suggest you hire a nanny or a sitter service for a few hours and enjoy the free time. of course, that might not be possible with a tight budget. the other option is to drive them to a park--and let the older one run around and tire himself out.

Last year of training is often the worst. But this too shall pass.

Have you thought about joining a gym that has child care? I love dropping off my two and then sit in the sauna or just read in the locker room.

                              Very sage advice.

Exercise can really help (care for you is essential), and of course, you get the bonus of some "alone" time.

I'm sorry it's rough right now: we've been there!
