Thank you! It didn't take too long into the prelim for DH to decide that surgery is not for him. After last year, I wasn't too sure if it was going to get any better since, well, residency is residency. I am sure glad that we get to see each other more!

Welcome, from a former Los Angeleno.
I totally missed LA when we lived in Iowa. So much that I practically spent several months out of the year in LA when I went back to school. The Detroit metro is totally awesome though. I feel more at home here (both in the Detroit metro and the forum!) already 😊. Thanks for the welcome!

Thank you! Seeing everyone's replies make me wish that I should've posted sooner! It's nice to be able to vent somewhere instead of holding it in inside...

By all means, let it all hang out. You've definitely come to the right place.

Even though he's only 1 month in his residency, he's definitely learning a lot. It is sad to think that the conditions in the patient population in this area lead to presentation of preventable diseases. But, on the other hand, it provides him with good training. Pros and cons to everything, right...

Whoops, I actually meant Iowa City, not Detroit, but it is nice to have another radiology spouse regardless!

Not a problem! 😄 I was in Iowa City when I first signed up for this forum. Will be changing it soon.

Thanks for the welcome. That's great that you love it there. IC/CV can be a good place to live and raise a family. As a new graduate then, the opportunities in IC helped me build up my resume despite the bad economy.

But, I really feel you though in finding a niche. Moving to Iowa meant that I left my busy big city social life behind in LA. As the years went on in our life in Iowa, I found it hard to relate to others and I really thought there was something wrong with me. I managed to make a couple of friends with ties to LA, so I wasn't completely friendless. But, it makes me incredibly sad that to think that I never found my niche there. 😔 Iowa never felt like home to us. But, I really tried the best that I can given the situation - it's what us medical spouses do the best.

Ugh, sorry for the baggage dump. 😞 I stopped writing when I was in Iowa City, so being able to write all of this is bittersweet for me. My husband and I found out that we will always belong in a big city and we are excited to move forward with our life. Thanks again.

Hey don't feel bad. We did med school on Iowa and I finished undergrad there. I HATE that ace. Coldest damn place on earth!
