MS-4 DO spouse here. We moved after 2nd year from our med school city to another city where he did mostly of his rotations. He also did a lot of aways, both by choice and because his school required a bunch of partner sites to be filled. So your DH may do some traveling around before residency, but he'll need a home base while he does... 4th year is all about the applications and interviews. Is your DH working on an application list yet, and doing all the research about programs he'll want to apply to? My understanding is that most CA programs don't take DOs, and those that do require that he have taken the USMLE steps one and two - most don't take the COMLEX. I think CA also isn't a DO-friendly state when it comes to practicing and insurance reimbursement. It's unfortunate.

DO peeps here, too.

DOs and MDs are reimbursed at the same rate for the same procedures. There's no difference there. We also know several DOs in CA who've never had an issue practicing in the state. Like all things in medicine, depends on specialty and location. CA is a huge state and what happens in Barstow isn't going to be the same as what flies in San Diego.

And I TOTALLY call dibs on the pastry chef when she can do her first cookie exchange, if she chooses to join the festivities.

Still trying to figure this whole forum thing. Realized I said gmail when it should have said family. Oops . I drive 12 hrs everytime I travel since it's the cheaper way to travel and this last time I had help because my 1 year old doesn't like it anymore. It use to be once a month due to occasions but I'm worn out so this is my last month with family and then won't be coming back until June for a graduation. I have used meetup.com but I'm in such a rural area that it seems like no one uses the internet out there. So I use it to meet new people out here in Ca . I miss my husband terribly and I feel like a single parent everytime I'm back home with him so I always run back "home" with family but like I mentioned lol all that is going to stop pretty soon

That's good to know - I've had a couple Californians tell me they had to pay out of pocket to see a DO, but they may have been referring to something specific like OMM only.

That's more an issue of their insurance coverage. Most insurers also cover OMT, so it's more likely that the physician they wanted to see wasn't on their plan.

Im in So CA too. Sorry that your area is so quiet. Thats rough. I totally get the single parent thing. My DS is 10 months old and many days DH doesn't get home before E goes to bed. and the only reason he sees him is because DS starts his days at 5am just like DH.

The quite area I live in is in the other state where Hubby is currently located... Back here in So Cal, I'm usually pretty busy or at least try to stay busy with visiting friends and family

Holiday cookie exchange, secret Santa, and holiday card exchange are all available after members gain access to the more private areas of the forum and we know each other better.

Medicine is a SMALL world, so this small layer of privacy helps afford members the opportunity to get to know each other a little better before private info might be divulged like addresses (for the exchanges) and real names. Many of us have been here for a looooooong time and are very good friends outside of the group, so please don't allow this to feel off putting.
