  • Hello from Maine

Hello, my name is Lynnea and I am a Paramedic, currently living with my boyfriend of over a year who just started medical school. It's been a really hard transition for us so I wanted to reach out and see if I could get help from people who are also going through this. I'd love to find people to talk to and i'd love to make some new friends as I don't think I can get through this process alone.
Thank you and I look forward to talking to you!

Hi there! Married to an MS2. Med school is a tough transition for sure, but not impossible. You're in the right place. ☺

Welcome! You've come to the right place. I found this community right before my DH started med school. He's a PGY3 now (3rd year resident).

It's so nice to know I'm not alone. It's felt that way for quite some time now and it's starting to effect my health. (I've lost about 10lbs since we moved about 1 month ago-although I can't complain it's not the right to lose weight!) I'm really looking forward to hearing your stories and advice. The whole process seems impossible right now. I'm 27 and previously divorced and have found my soul mate now, but we just have to make it through this and all I want is to keep moving forward with our lives together and be happy. I hope that it is possible!

You've definitely found the right place to be at the right time. I've been here 11+ years and now my hubby is an attending. This site got me through the really rough patches. Hang in there, post often, and I look forward to getting to know you.

Did you have to move far for him to go to medical school? I hope you're getting settled in your new home.

We moved from NH to ME, I have been unable to find a job in Maine so I commute 2 1/2hrs to work. As I said I'm a full time Paramedic but luckily my schedule has been arranged so I only have to make the commute twice a week. I just want to feel secure and know that we are going to have not only a successful career but a successful family and home life as well. Family is so important to me and I want one of my own in the near future. Hoping we can handle it all and still be okay.

Welcome!! I know NH/ME well (was there for college), it's SO beautiful this time of year!

Are you a hiker or kayaker or skier? What do you do for fun?

Welcome! Maine is one of my absolute favorite places in the country!! It's sooooo beautiful there.

I remember how scary those transitions were, and ours did not happen nearly as quickly as yours. I'm sure if you keep communication open and loving you guys will figure it out. Remember, you'll feel WAY more secure in 1,2, and 3+ years. A young relationship, relocation, and moving in together are huge, scary transitions. Tell yourself everything will be okay. Eventually you'll see that it actually is

Thank you all for your replies! How great this feels to have this connection now.
I enjoy many things, working out and staying fit is a big part of my life (my boyfriend and I used to go to a gym back home together every day, now I'm doing P90X3 in my living room haha, quite a change but still fun). I also enjoy hiking and would love to go canoeing or kayaking, however we don't own any boats and I have no friends in the area. I've found it to be a hard place to find friends as it is a small country town in Maine (Limerick) with not many extracurricular activities going on. I do love the country though and it is very beautiful here. We are surrounded by many beautiful lakes and the ocean is close. I just wish there were people to enjoy them with, especially while he is in school. I have a few friends back home but not many are easy to talk to in this field as they just do not understand what I am going though. Hence why I bought the book Surviving Residency and happened to notice the website on the back and found myself here

I totally feel you on the hard place to find friends thing - I'm not even in a small town, and I've found it difficult to make friends. We had a lot of really good friends when I was in grad school and then when he was in med school, but the move for residency has been a lot harder for us. I'm so jealous of the beautiful area you're in though, because it is not so beautiful here, and I miss being able to do nice things outdoors.
