Ahhhhhhhhhh home... I miss KC. That is where I grew up. Overland Park if you are familiar with the area. I am up there quite a bit to see family. I am sure I will have more time to travel now that I will be a Med-Student Widow.

Anyway, I just feel really disappointed, confused, and dissatisfied right now--basically the quarter-life crisis.
Well I am a philosophy major and a languages minor and I am Pre-Law. I would love to go work as some kind of foreign ambassador to under developed countries or something. I have no interrest in the medical field but a strong urge to help others. Maybe if you can find another way to help people as I am looking towards you may find your passion. Take a philosophy class it may change your life. It did mine. I just turned 30 and felt the same way about my career path until I found this.

Catina, I sort of did that during the NCAA tournament one year. I had no idea that Holy Cross was outside of Boston and I was in Boston on business so I took a friend with me to watch the game we were the ONLY people in the ENTIRE bar cheering for KU - and we almost lost, it was fun! 8)

So can I ask where you went to high school - if you just turned 30 you're about the same age as my DH, he turns 30 in September. My DH went to Aquinas.

I went to Shawnee Mission West and actually knew a few people From St Thomas Aquinas. How cool is that!

I think my FIL went to SMW - my DH ran cross country in high school so he knows people from all of those schools! Small world!

Very groovy. I like finding that this giant ball that we reside on can be quite small at times

                          From a Recruiter's perspective...

                          Veggie,

I can't believe no one has suggested this yet, but why don't you TEACH?! I think that the best way to start feeling better about yourself is to make others feel better. Plus, teaching (or school counseling, etc) meets your qualifications that you stated as:
                          1. not a desk job
                          2. a nurturing, not adversarial career (unlike law)
                          3. a job where I have contact with people a lot
                          4. a job where my ideas and input are valued
                          5. a job with a high level of responsibility
Some states require schooling and certifications and whatnot, but a lot of private schools don't. Plus, your law degree will make you very attractive to private schools (they love being able to put another higher degreed person on their teacher's list!) and you will be making a fantastic opportunity to a community and to kids' lives! It's a very respectable career path that even doctors will admire and it will give you a lot to talk about at dinners like the one your hubby invited you along to. Plus, you will meet plenty of people your age, men and women, single and married. I think it would be a fabulous idea and probably help pull you out of this funk. It would probably make your relationship better, too, because no matter what HE says, depression affects relationships in a negative way and it's up to you to make the change, not him. (Unfortunate but true!)

                          Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second the teaching idea. I never imagined that I'd end up a high school teacher, but it's the most rewarding (and lowest paying) job I've had. My CV is four pages long, and I've got lots of letters after my name, but I think all that credential stuff helps me have more confidence and makes me a more effective teacher.

Third the teaching idea. At a private school, as was said earlier.
I teach undergrad classes in German and love it. I don't think I could do high school, because I wouldn't want to deal with parents, but definitely--teaching is so fulfilling in many ways.

God... Isn't it hard to remember this when your in the middle of the funk. Sometimes I just wish someone would rescue me. Then someone comes along (usually hubby) and reminds me it's not a fairey tale (D@MN the Luck!) and I have to pull my self outta my mess.
