    Re: Freaking Elliot Spitzer

Well let's remember that he was a practicing private law firm attorney for several years, at some pretty high priced firms, so he's probably socked away some cash.
And I'm sure all these girls receive 1099s for their income, right? (or W-2, if they're servicing him frequently enough).

Anyway, I do understand some folks' moral disgust at his behavior, and their feeling that it might be relevant. I just don't agree that it's relevant.
But I must say, this has been a most polite and nonconfrontational discussion. Thank you.

I wonder what the deal was with the girls. (Financially!) I read that the Emperor's Club VIP advertised that the fees paid by wire transfer would appear as a normal transaction on bank statements....something like "CMI International". I wonder if they were doing everything above board financially....just misleading about what "services" they provided.

        Re: Freaking Elliot Spitzer

I didn't realize that. I've just thought of him as going after Wall Street (as an attorney general?) and then as governor.

        From an AP story:
The scion of a wealthy Manhattan real estate developer, Spitzer reported $1.9 million in income to the IRS in 2006.
I read in today's paper that he was rather sanctimonious about busting a high-end call girl ring a few years ago. Irony is a bitch.

Angie, I read that the cash transfers prompted the bank to report him to the IRS or something. Dang, I better stop moving all that cash around!

          Here it is:
Spitzer proudly announced on April 8, 2004, that authorities had arrested 18 people on promoting prostitution and related charges — including money laundering and falsifying business records — in an investigation of escort services in New York.

"This was a sophisticated and lucrative operation with a multitiered management structure," Spitzer said at the time. "It was, however, nothing more than a prostitution ring, and now its owners and operators will be held accountable."

At least he didn't prosecute the clients. Now that would be ironic.
He also didn't go after any of the financial clients - just the managers.

He officially resigned, which is what everyone was expecting him to do anyway. No surprise there.
