Yeah, I was surprised by the DailyKos connection, too. Not a wise choice for them. It makes them look like a source to doubt for the next few important months. Dumb move.

This is getting nuts...now the DrudgeReport is running a link to the DailyKos "article"--but this isn't news...it's gossip. The whole thing sounds like some nutty conspiracy theory in its presentation of "evidence" and innuendo.

WTH? The media buried Edwards's affair for months because they didn't want to run a "less than completely researched" article--despite actual evidence (contrasted with this situation, where the most convincing stuff is that a bunch of people saying that they were surprised to hear that she was pregnant)--but they are willing to plaster this stuff all over the place. If there's a story--an actual story--then, please: research it, write it, and run it. I am all for the truth. But this stuff?

Maybe I am biased. On my second (current) pregnancy, I didn't show in business suits until my seventh month. Not everyone pops out right away--especially if you are active, slender and/or tall (I am all, and it appears that Palin is, too). Moreover, I also waited a good long time to announce it broadly at work--work is work and the last thing I needed was for people to see me as "the pregnant one" instead of in my professional capacity. And, for some reason, I have gained only 24 pounds (3 weeks to go). The doc says I'm TOTALLY healthy, weight gain is fine, and the baby is doing great--but not everyone gains the same amount of weight or shows in the same way. Just the way it is. People were shocked to find out I was pregnant. It seems weird to me that people would be more apt to believe that she is lying about her pregnancy and covering it up in some grand scheme than to believe that she just hid it well under suits.

But, I have to tell you, if the "allegation" is true, McCain is toast. You'd think that the prospective candidates all had to undergo a MEDICAL evaluation as part of the vetting (I think that'd be pretty standard). Um...you sure as heck would be able to tell if she was lactating and if she'd recently given birth, right?

        Re: sarah palin part deux

I don't know when the exactly right time would be to announce, but given all the commentary on her working and having kids, I don't blame her for waiting.

I'm not sure about the slender people showing later. I'm more slender (though shorter) and that definitely don't hold true for me, especially with subsequent pregnancies. I think that a suit coat would help hide it. Common sense dictates to not assume that someone is pregnant. When I was nearing 6 months during my first pregnancy, a co-worker was surprised to hear I was pregnant and thought I had just put on some weight over the holidays. I was a little shocked at first but I think that is a safer assumption. People probably assumed that given her age, her job, that she already had kids, etc that there was an explanation other than pregnancy (not saying those are reasons not to be pregnant...).

I only wish I looked that good at 7 months! I'm on the small side and gained 25 lbs with this last pregnancy, but my belly was so big by 6 months that someone asked if I was having twins.

                          http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080901/pl_ ... palin_dc_2
ST. PAUL (Reuters) - The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Bristol Palin, one of Alaska Gov. Palin's five children with her husband, Todd, is about five months pregnant and is going to keep the child and marry the father, the Palins said in a statement released by the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain.

Bristol Palin made the decision on her own to keep the baby, McCain aides said.

"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us," the Palins' statement said.

"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support," the Palins said.

The Palins asked the news media to respect the young couple's privacy.

"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media, respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates," the statement concluded.

                          MCCAIN KNEW

Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter's pregnancy when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate, deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way.

In the short period since she was announced last Friday, Palin has helped to energize the Republican Party's conservative base, giving the McCain camp fresh energy going into the campaign for the November 4 election against Democrat Barack Obama.

McCain officials said the news of the daughter's pregnancy was being released to rebut what one aide called "mud-slinging and lies" circulating on liberal blog sites.

According to these rumors, Sarah Palin had faked a pregnancy and pretended to have given birth in May to her fifth child, a son named Trig who has Down syndrome. The rumor was that Trig was actually Bristol Palin's child and that Sarah Palin was the grandmother.

A senior McCain campaign official said the McCain camp was appalled that these rumors had not only been spread around liberal blog sites and partisan Democrats, but also were the subject of heightened interest from mainstream news media.

"The despicable rumors that have been spread by liberal blogs, some even with Barack Obama's name in them, is a real anchor around the Democratic ticket, pulling them down in the mud in a way that certainly juxtaposes themselves against their 'campaign of change,"' a senior aide said.

Liberal blogs 'even with Barack Obama's name in them?'. As though he can control what is written about him.

I hope it's true that McCain knew. Logic would dictate that when you get the offer, you'd disclose what would likely be a huge bombshell .... but if she didn't that would really put her behind the eight-ball from the get-go.

So when is she due? Cause this could be pregnancy number two for Bristol, right? Just cause she is pg now, doesnt mean she wasnt a year ago. Now, I dont really think it is possible from someone in the public eye to fake a pregnancy but I dont think the fact that her daughter is pg now is absolute proof that Sarah is Trig's mother.
