She did bring me to tears when she was singing at the inauguration. What a beautiful voice.

I think you're right. So few women wear hats now outside of church, I think ANY hat ANY prominent woman would have worn at the inauguration probably would have garnered attention...just for the sake of being a hat. Sort of like if Obama had worn a hat. It wouldn't have been weird or inappropriate, but it probably would have gotten some remarks, because men just don't wear hats much anymore (other than stocking caps or ball caps).

I think I heard that hats were not allowed at the inauguration.

I would be so surprised if they weren't allowed. JFK was the first president who didn't wear a hat to his inauguration. If Obama said he wanted to wear a Lincoln-ish hat, would that have been forbidden?

I'll have to go look at the pictures again but I think my friend's brother who was there wore a hat. Do you mean anyone in attendance?

Sorry - I typed that in a hurry. I just remember hearing an announcer on tv saying that guests in the grandstand (the main seating area behind the podium) were not supposed to wear hats or sunglasses. When they panned over to Bush Sr., he had a hat on, and the announcer said: "I doubt they will make him take his hat off; it's X many degrees today."

Sounds like the banks in New Jersey. They have signs on the doors that say plese remove hats and sunglasses before entering. It is because they need to clearly see eveyone on the security cameras. Freaked me out the first time I noticed it.

Teddy Kennedy wore a fedora -- the announcers kept saying he was going to revive the hat industry. And then Justice Scalia also wore the hat he always wears.

I must be hearing things, then. Sorry for the confusion!

I'm so traumatized by the boob picture that I can't respond! I still liked her hat though.

Yeah, that pretty much rendered me speachless too.

It really was a shock! I wasn't expecting to see that while I sat here with my nice hot cup of coffee today!

Just 'cause Kennedy and Scalia wore hats doesn't mean there wasn't a rule against it.

Spike Lee...why?!?!? Now that hat is ugly! It's like a baseball cap with faux fur flaps.
