It's so funny, b/c I love hummus, too, but it took me awhile to realize that i don't like REAL hummus. The first place I ever had it was Tommy's on Coventry in Cleveland Heights, and their hummus is NOT real hummus (Sandy and Heidi can attest, b/c I ordered it there with them). Much less garlicky, served with tomatoes, onions, cheese, and hot sauce!

Hopefully Suz will share her recipe for all of you purists out there.

As for chips and salsa -- even with my total lack of willpower, I can pass right by them. Give me a bowl of cheesy poofs though, and I'm putty in your hands.

Hummus is easy...it's mostly chickpeas/garbanzos ( 1 can drained) with Tahini paste (~ 1/4 cup), some minced garlic to taste, a little salt, water and olive oil for texture, whipped in a food processor..I tend to add a bit more garlic and sometimes cumin and paprika for color and to add a bit of taste...you are right plain hummus is kinda bland...the choice of tahini (sesame seed paste) really makes a difference too... some places use unsweetened peanut butter...not as good...

San Antonio has ruined me for salsa and queso.

It's garbage anywhere else, I'm sorry to say.

For all the sweet AND salty lovers, try peanut m&ms and popcorn. The best!!!
