Amen. I can't stand them. I didn't like them when GWB was in office, and I didn't become any more fond of them when Obama took over.

It doesn't really surprise me. What happens is if you get the turn out for the state outside of the Boston area to be larger than the turnout for the Boston area - you easily have a conservative winning office. That's a big reason Romney won - his support was very large outside of the Boston area - iow over the entire state except the very liberal Boston area. (Kind of like New York - outside of NYC it's entirely possible for a conservative to win in that state).

And, I'll bet the rather large population of medical providers in the state voted for the Republican this time around due to the current medical coverage fiasco on the federal level. I can think of some highly liberal colleagues of dh's up there that would vote for a Republican in just such a case as we have right now.

If anything this has broader implications for all of the Democrats facing re-election in the next round of elections.

        Re: Kennedy's Senate Seat

I read today that the 3 issues that were the cause for rejection of current obama policies were 1. the economy 2. Bail out/poor oversight of wall street and 3. Healthcare (in that order).

I agree that the MA state healthcare plan could be part of it, but also wonder how hints about taxes on the 'wealthy' play a role too. Don't some people call massachusettes taxachusettes? I imagine that the quickest way to turn away your constituents is to dig deeper and deeper into their pockets.

Also, as someone who lives in MA, I'm not sure you can 100% say the plan 'worked'. When you have to wait 4 months for a PCP appointment or 3-4 days for something urgent, I'm not sure it worked. And MA has a MUCH higher per capita physician rate than other states. It could be much worse in certain regions and specialties.

They're weird. Honestly. And it's not because they are liberal and I don't agree with their politics. They are tone deaf and seem to function on the presumption that the "little people" are stupid. Pelosi's idiotic and uninformed remarks about her church; Reid's bizarre remarks about using losing in the war...it's just a thousand little things that make you think, "Do they even listen to themselves?"

The Dems would be well-served to dump them both and bringing people who lead with pragmatism and practicality. That's what it takes to get a consensus, which is still needed, no matter what side you fall on.

And today, Air America Radio just filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy relief, ceasing all operations and seeking a wind-down.

The week in politics was bookended by the completely unbelievable and the wholly inevitable.

To add to your "this week in politics" list: the Supreme Court ruled today that corporations and unions may spend freely on elections. Get ready for a lot more campaign ads. Yuck.

I posted a snarky remark about Schumer's response to this in the Debates section.

But no one has responded. **Do you ever get the feeling at times that people just don't "get" you?** hahaha
