DH and I were both ridiculously sneaky little shits with very little adult supervision. It's kind of a miracle that we survived to adulthood, honestly -- particularly DH. There isn't anything under the sun that we haven't already done a million times sneakier than our kids' wildest dreams.

    Sorry, kiddos -- you're loophole-less.

I came back from sleep away camp with a boyfriend, at 13. My parents were horrified but it was too late at that point. I don't remember any conversations about when I would be allowed to date, so I technically wasn't breaking any rules. I was also never allowed to go to a sleepover, even to a friend who lived next door. Generally my parents were pretty strict and I had the earliest curfew of all my friends, but I still managed to do what I wanted and sneak around behind their back. Nothing too terrible, which is why I couldn't understand why they didn't trust me more.

For now I'm a believer in do the best you can and then let them make their own decisions and inevitably mistakes. But she's still only 15 months, so feel free to remind me of this in a few years.
