Yup! Encapsulation. I've heard it as a way to combat post partum depression.

Because I had a med-free birth, they asked me if I wanted my placenta. Apparently these things often go together in some kind of hippie birthing tap package or something.

I told them that hippo birthing (med free, tub birth, etc) ended at delivery.

My own mother asked me if I was planning to chow down on my placenta with TBD Baby #2. I'm crunchy, but I'm not quite there...

            Maybe I would? IDK.

I've changed mind on this lately.

Throw it on the grill? Eww

              Encapsulation? Eh.

Neither is for me but to each their own.

My sister wanted to save hers for purposes of burying it (essentially composting), and was going to have a placenta burial party. We were all relieved when she forgot to ask to save it because the baby came several weeks early. It's NOT something I would want to go to but I think we would just to be supportive of her.

We're in Texas. Everything can be thrown on a grill then served on a bun.

It's also supposed to be a great source of post partum protein...and supposedly, even just sucking on a raw fresh piece will stop post partum hemorrhage.

But....I'm not there in my crunchiness either.
