  • Ashley Madison searchable database

Ashley Madison is a website for cheaters with a 37 million membership base.

If you haven't heard of it before this is more on what happened recently. The mind-bending messiness of the Ashley Madison data dump

In short hackers got the private data of the Ashley Madison website and threatened to release it to the public if they didn't take down the website that provides their service of clandestine encounters for people who want to cheat on their spouses or significant others. The website touts privacy and security and ended up not adhering to the threat. So hackers dumped the data on the dark web this week which is only accessible through the Tor browser. That data has since been taken and made into a searchable database using the registered emails of Ashley Madison accounts.

Here's the searchable database by email from the Ashley Madison hack. LINK

Ewe! So that's who that picture was circulating around on social media today. Now I know. I don't pay much attention to the reality TV shows.

I wonder if it's really him. Also, wouldn't you use a FAKE email address (or one your spouse doesn't know about) to do this? Seems so sketchy.

Apparently it also had his residence that matched the address on the show AND it updated when he moved. Ick.

I think the name/address was probably credit card related, so you probably couldn't easily fake that. That being said, I'm a little skeptical about any notable person that shows up on this list...it wouldn't be that hard to find the right data and mix it in with the rest

I know that I shouldn't be shocked but 37 MILLION people looking to have extramarital affairs? That's even more icky than any individual user's identity.

I was surprised at 37 million too. Some websites say it's more like 36 million though. I would also think that cheaters would use a fake email or another email you don't know about. Wouldn't it be difficult to hide the credit card use for the website though?

The NYTs also posted a link to a second website to check the Ashley Madison emails so that you can cross verify the first website email database.

The Ashley Madison Data Dump, Explained

                        Second website: http://www.trustify.info/check

The only way to see the full data dump is to download the Tor browser. Then go to the dark web and download the data. It will show credit card information, user profiles, sexual preferences, exchanges, ect.

The information is out. Ashley Madison isn't going to be able to contain this.

So while I think these people are terrible and deserve to be caught, I am worried about the happening with other sites. What about stores or other websites where people shop? It's pretty easy to see a scenario where my name and addy ends up published on the Internet along with everything I've ever bought on Amazon.

I agree, T&S. Any sort of schadenfreude I have about cheaters being caught is pretty much erased when I think about what that means for the security of websites I use for purchasing things, and even my own email, Facebook, or a site like this.
