The news coming out of Paris is so frightening and upsetting. The latest report says that more than 120 were killed.

I'm terrified. I can't sleep any more. I'm up nights worried about ISIS and nazis and the presidential election.

I hope there's not a backlash against the refugees that are fleeing the middle east to Europe.

No one I know personally, but several comments in this same vein on social media. Truly appalling.

Oh there already is. I'm appalled and unfriending at least one person already on social media.

I'm so sad for Paris. Our good friends live there (they are safe thank God) and I studied in France in college.

I do wonder if this wakes up the rest of Europe, especially if it is ISIS. If they can slaughter people in their own countries, bring down an airplane and attack Paris, maybe we should be dealing with them.

It is ISIS. They are going to try to attack the US eventually. I think they want to start a world war.

They've already tried but the FBI intercepts them before they get that far. I never though I'd say this but the Patriot Act has helped in this regard. This is a great article on it from the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...orld.html?_r=1
It is a lot more difficult to prevent these attacks in Europe where borders are open and governments can't monitor people's online activity to the same extent.
We have family in Paris and were so sad to see this last night. They are ok but are still in shock.

Yes, but that means we have to succeed 100% of the time. They only have to succeed a few times to cause major harm.

I agree that ISIS wants to start a world war, and as individuals they're definitely willing to sacrifice their own lives and families to accomplish their cause. It's all terrifying.

Just a friendly reminder - it's a good time for ALL healthcare providers to review his/her hospital's major incident policies, and find out his/her role in those policies.

True.
That's why we have to step up the worldwide effort to obliterate them.

I feel sad, angry, and also numb. A friend from high school posted this, and it's how I'll keep choosing to live:

Keep watching movies in the theater.
Keep running marathons.
Keep bettering yourself with education.
Keep eating out at restaurants.
Keep going to sports events and concerts.
Keep praying at your churches, synagogues, and temples.

Keep celebrating each other, wining and dining each other, sharing your faith in each other, and loving each other. Keep doing what makes you feel fulfilled, talented, magnificent, and above all happy.
What this hatred wants is for you, me, and the entire planet to stop living, and by no means...we can never let them have what they want.

I just need to step away from Facebook (ha, not that that's ever going to happen)... I want to argue with every single post people make that I disagree with, but I know that's not effective.

I feel the same way ladymoreta and yet I log in every day.

I have a view that probably isn't popular. I can't embrace just blindly opening our arms to refugees, and I also am vehemently against the ideology that all Muslims are terrorists. I'm somewhere in the middle on this. I don't know what the right answer is. My feed is filled with people either screaming against the Muslim community or calling people hate-filled for being hesitant about the refugee crisis.

When Thomas immigrated, he had to take an hiv test and tb test. We had to go to the us consulate twice to be interviewed. We had to sign an official affidavit that Andrew was actually Thomas' son. Because he was born 9 months after we got married. It was an invasive process.

We have a huge Somali immigrant refugee community here. There are so many active cases of really bad TB that it is ridiculous. The majority live off of state funds and in state housing. They get a lot of welfare services. When their children come in for neuropsych testing, the govt pays for all of it. At the same time, average American citizens are having testing denied by insurance and are paying $1500-2000 if they want it done.

I think we should let Syrian refugees in, but there has to be a vetting process. People have to be screened for disease and treated. How can we weed out potential terrorists or even verify who people really are? My heart is broken for the people and I do believe we have to act to help the people of Syria. I just want to be careful.

But maybe I'm wrong.

Krid
