My 19 year old son's dream scenario is that both Trump and Sanders end up as independent campaigns and the main parties put forward Hillary and Standard R candidate (Rubio? Cruz? Who knows?) It would truly test the two party system and maybe result in a coalition of some sort.

I think we are witnessing the shattering of the Republican Party. If they lose a large part of their base to some "other" at this election over Trump, I'm not sure what happens next for them.

Cruz isn't much better. But trump makes him look sane. Sort of. But I think Bernie Samders is crazy too. Or perhaps just naive to an insane degree.

I can see where people would think Bernie Sanders is "crazy" or extremely idealistic. I feel like the difference is that his ideas don't marginalize people. Given the choice between broader civil rights protection + higher taxes v. lower taxes + restricted civil rights and increased discrimination against whatever "bad guy" there is at the time, I'd vote for the former every time.

I don't see how anyone could opt out of a Trump vs Sanders election. Those candidates are such polar opposites that voters would have to have an opinion. Really, *anyone* vs Trump should force voters to the polls to vote for "the other candidate."

Agreed. I hate this time of the presidential cycle. I have very little interest in being "involved" in the election but if trump is the R nominee I will help campaign for the D. Let's hope for my and the world's sake that doesn't happen.

I tell you - my sense is that Trump is in it for Trump. In the end, he will come out ahead. Whether it is a personal move, the Ds paid him or some of the Rs wanted to show what the party can turn into, dude is winning in the end. May not be the election but cannot see him "losing". This is my too much ABC's Scandal watching opinion.
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I think I would opt out of a Trump vs. Sanders election. I absolutely wouldn't vote for either. Sanders is the "less bad" candidate to me but still very much not in alignment with my perspectives.

I'm not really a fan of socialism either...

But it's not going to happen. I firmly believe that. There have been polls of Clinton vs. all the Repubs against likely voters and Trump is not the highest polling Repub. There's no way he's the nominee come March.

He said the DJ had to answer from his "heart" not from his mind. I couldn't fucking believe it. He may as well have said, "Follow your most base instinct, likely fueled by the 24/7 news cycle and fear-mongering journalists and politicians, and then completely ignore your rational mind." Unbelievable.

I know people who've said they'd sit this election out if Trump were the nominee, regardless of who the democratic nominee is. I absolutely know people who will sit out if it is Sanders v. Trump. If it ends up that way I feel like I will have to beg people to reconsider that stance. In a scenario like this, taking no action is as bad as voting for someone like Trump. In fact, it feels like it's even worse.
I would absolutely love to know which morning show you were listening to.

Okay - I thought with that response it could have been a different radio show there, but if it was your head probably would have exploded bc the people on that radio station would have said WAY worse shit.

I would vote for anyone to ensure Trump didn't get elected.

                            Slight tangent but...
I think Sanders made a huge mistake adding the word socialist to his name. He shares views similar to many European nations that are far left, emphasize social issues but are not socialist. In fact, most nations that Americans consider to be socialist are not. They don't class themselves as socialist. The word just has too many negative connotations here and too many people equate it with commuism. Bad move on his part and a lot of people will dismiss him before even finding out what he's about because of it.

I know what he stands for and with or without the socialist label, I don't think the country can afford many of his proposals. Many countries in Europe can't afford them either with aging population.
