V-girl - if there were, you'd have to pry them out of my hands! I've heard that they eventually sleep. Sadly, "eventually" hasn't made it to our house yet either!

      IT programmer

Right now, I love my job to pieces. Lots of reasons:

I work from home, which is great.

I'm 4 time zones away from the main office, so I have 4 hours to work in the morning before anyone is really in and causing fires for me to put out, and I can knock off and let my coworkers deal with urgent stuff that happens after the end of my day (though I don't have much of a life, being the wife of a med student in a new city, so if something *really* urgent happened, I'd be able to help out into the evening).

My coworkers are great. Interestingly, two people have left the team, and three have joined it since I started 6 months ago....and two of the three that joined it were actually re-joining - they had worked for the company before, left, and decided to come back. The manager that hired me is one of the ones that left; I'm hoping he decides to come back, too. He was a sweetie.

I'm particularly happy right now because there's a problem I was given to look into about a month ago, and I've been poking away at it, having to learn a lot about how that part of our system works, building little test scripts and such...and this morning, I *finally figured it out*! I was so excited. I understand so much more about how this huge mess of database and web pages works, now, and the fix to the original problem is *really* easy, too. I'm being cautious, though, and meeting with a coworker on Monday to go over what I found and make sure that implementing the fix won't break something else I'm not thinking of or don't know about. This also increased my confidence in my own abilities to poke around in the code and figure out what's going on, too. And my confidence in my own coding abilities; they had sadly stagnated in my previous job.

I love my job! I teach first grade in a fantastic school. The rest of the staff is so wonderful to work with. It's the kind of school that I would want my own child to go to.

          is this a job?

I work part time from home as a freelance writer. And I really enjoy it. My main client is the media company I used to work for FT before we moved for med school. So I'm not much of a "free lance" yet. Since I still have preschoolers at home, I'm only doing it PT (after they're asleep!) But once they're all in school, I plan to vamp it up to FT income and get more clients, rather than going back to being an employee. Then I can be free when DH is free during residency (which I hear is not very often!) and home when the kids get back from school.

I love it because I can do the work from home whenever I want. I love finding the right word and a fresh, new way to say something. I really like learning about new things and researching what they need me to write about. Always learning! "The Well-Fed Writer" tells how to get started with freelance commercial writing, even if you have never had any paid experience before.

I am an interior designer, and as fun as it sounds, its not always. I design hotels, clubhouses, and malls. I have come to realize that no matter what your job is, at least 75% your are dealing with the logistics and not actually getting anything done.

            Me- 10% design
            90% Coordination

I think how much you like your job has just as much to do with who you work with. I think that really makes or breaks career happiness!

Luckily I work in a office with all women around the same age and we crack each other up at least 10 times a day!

Re: Who here actually enjoys their job?

I am a psychotherapist in private practice, and I LOVE it! I work three days a week, and am also finishing my doctorate. I get to set my own hours, wear what I want, not have to answer to anyone else, and I make a great salary. I've always wanted to be a therapist; sometimes it's hard to believe I'm living out my dream.

Re: Who here actually enjoys their job?

I'm a volunteer coordinator and love my job. I work at a fabulous hospital and work with the most amazing people. We mostly get pre-med, pre-nursing college students who are very motivated and do great work! As for staff it seems like people actually enjoy their job, which makes everyone's lives better! It is flexible, I work a 9-80 work week with everyother Friday off and I one Saturday a month, and I decide which one! I have good benefits and my DH did his peds rotation here so that was kinda fun! It is a teaching facility so I get to see a lot of our med school friends and residents!

Re: Who here actually enjoys their job?

I am a bookkeeper four days a week. I was formerly a office manager/bookkeeper and I really hated my job. I made the switch to bookkeeping only in the spring and I actually enjoy my job now. What I like about it:

It's a solid skill, my job description is specific, the pay is decent, I am given room to manage myself and work, I don't have to answer the phone, I like working with numbers and am very detailed oriented, it's somewhat solitary. I like not having to work five days a week. As well, it's not difficult to find work.
