The most rewarding paths are often the riskiest!! Although I am a natural planner, list-maker, scheduler...etc, I do believe in seizing the opportunity. If it feels right - go for it! No matter when you do it, if it is a life-changing experience (or dream) it will be scary at first.

Whatever you decide - GOOD LUCK!!!!

      Store Update

Thanks to everyone for their encouragement and advice. I have an update with the store I thought I should share.

Since living in NC I have been trying to network quite a bit particularly with local shop owners to see if I can get a vibe about sales, traffic etc. I found a location literally a mile from my house that is perfect. There is a cute store directly next to it that is a monogramming and gift store. Very similar in style to mine, but the focus of mine is more tabletop. I spoke to these girls at length about the area, and they shared a lot of information. Since things have been slow in the retail world, they didn't want to paint a perfect picture and watch me struggle with a new shop. (I am so lucky I ran across these two very honest and caring girls!)

I thought a lot of this information over, and came up with an idea. Since our product lines didn't overlap I inquired with the girls if they would consider "leasing" me a portion of their store. This takes away pretty much 90% of store start up costs for me, and allows me to test the market prior to diving in. I am going to be "paying" for the space in the store with my hours worked, just about 20 a week. This will help them out since they are both busy moms.

All that being said, they loved the idea and I am currently in the process of painting my area and moving my stuff in. I could not be happier. This has basically removed all risk, and got me up and going immediately. They are planning a Merry Martini introduction party July 30, so I have a lot to do.

I feel so blessed to have met these girls and have this opportunity fall into my lap. Now it is time to get up and running and see what Durham thinks of The Merry Martini!

Thanks again for input, I will keep you all updated on how things are going.

Thought I would give an update. My side of the store officially opened about 2 weeks ago, and I am loving working there.

I am attempting to attach a pic...we'll see if this works!
