  • I just wanna cry!

My client that I've been billing for turned his medicare billing over to me last month (before I was doing everything but that) which meant I had to learn a new kind of billing. I was so thrilled because the volume of claims basically tripled and also I had to really earn their trust so it felt good that they were turning it over to me. I worked my butt off to learn how to bill the medicare claims, staying up sometimes until 3am. I was trying to be so careful to do it all correctly so they wouldn't regret their decision. Before I sent the claims in I carefully looked over each and every one to make sure everything was OK. I felt pretty confident but a little worried that I might somehow screw it all up. Today I started calling to follow-up (I mailed the claims about 2 weeks ago so I figured they might start being processed by now) and so far every one of them that I have checked on has been suspended. They give a different error code for each one and I can't even figure out where to find what the error codes mean. The guys I bill for are in a conference in FL so they don't even know yet. They will be back by Thursday so I'm hoping to have everything resolved and the claims ready to re-submit by then but I can't for the life of me figure out how this happened. I was so careful! The good news is that I am going to a Medicare billing seminar on Thursday so hopefully I can get some answers but I'm so disappointed in myself.

    Sue-

Do not blame yourself! We have problems with Medicaid and Medicare ALL the time. I think they change things on a daily basis just to see if anyone is paying attention.

Sue, I've got total and complete faith in you that you will work this out. As someone who has had to train herself and build her own work-at-home empire, I think you've done great. Give yourself some time and make a few phone calls and this, too, will pass. Keep us posted.

OH Sue...don't Cry!!! My mom is an NP and does nursing home/assisted living visits...and she is constantly having medicare send things back....I'm sure that your employer will understand completely....This is more about them than you.

        Hang in there.......

Thanks you guys--I'm feeling a lot better today. I called Medicare repeatedly today (they are only allowed to answer questions on 3 claims and then they make you hang up and call back!) and I found out that 3 of my biggest claims were in fact paid. Of course, that is out of 12, but hey I'll take what I can get. So far it looks like some of it was my employer's fault as they provided me with incorrect UPIN numbers for some of the referring physician's, at least one was my error as I keyed in a date that hasn't even happened yet, and at least one was medicare's error--they hand-key in paper claims and THEY keyed something wrong. So, at least I no longer feel like a big loser who doesn't know what in the he** I'm doing! I'm getting ready to email the guys I bill for and let them know I'm at least on top of it already. Thanks again for the encouragement guys!!!

            medicare

I hope that they get everything fixed up for you...have you talked to your boss about this yet? I'll bet he is understanding about it...

My husband always has problems with medicare. I think they do things on purpose to hang on to their money a little longer while you dangle in the wind. Don't be too hard on yourself.

                update

Hey Sue....what ever happened with this? Did it all get sorted out in the end and did the docs understand?

No, it is STILL a big giant mess! I HATE MEDICARE!!! It turns out, every single one of my claims did get rejected. So I was feeling like a huge failure (again!) when I put a call in to someone at Medicare with a little clout, and she checked into it and the reason they were suspended was something they did wrong. They are supposedly fixing it, but it has been over a week and it still isn't fixed. In the meantime, I got set up to have online access so I can directly enter my claims into their system, but my computer apparently is too sophisticated (I'm saying this with a little sarcasm) for their software. It is ancient and will only work with Windows 95/98/NT. It absolutely will not work with XP and they have no plans to change that anytime soon. They said the only thing I could do was get a new operating system since I can't load 98 onto a computer which already has XP. So, my dear old dad has an old laptop he isn't using that has Windows 98 that he gave me. Of course, that wouldn't just go off without a hitch--for some reason it isn't recognizing the damn modem that I installed on it, so I still can't get online with them. I swear, I'm about to pull my hair out! Thanks for asking Kris, I wish I had better news to report!
