• My Own Thing

Since DH will be working two jobs, 6 days a week, days and nights, I don't think working away from home is really an option for a while. Yet, I think it's time for me to do something with my brain again. 😄 I miss my brain!

I have lots of skills and a currently unused master's degree, but am not convinced I want to use it. (i.e. There's shocking little difference between entitled freshmen/sophomore college students, and toddlers).

Things I don't like:
-hocking a product/sales/MLM
-telemarketing
-product testing

Things that interest me:
-projects (contracted work - I give a bid, you accept, I work without a boss since I am my own boss)
-organizations/non-profits/technical writing
-travel (!!!)
-planning (I really love researching, data collection, planning, and executing the plan)

1) What can I (realistically) do from home? Remember, DS1 will be in primary school next year; however, DS2 is still 18 months and with me 24/7. DH is still talking about #3 as well... So there's that (?)

2) In-home help or babysitters won't be an option until I see whether or not the job is lucrative enough to bring in someone.

3) I'm willing to accept a low paying position if there's some amazing kickback or perk. (e.g. Flying standby/free on an airline with international partners, 20-30% on merchandise from outdoorsy/athletic companies, consideration for publication with a publishing company)

So, what are some options, or am I hopeless? 😄

Disney travel agent. I'm sure TigerLily could tell you more. You know the parks like the back of your hand and you practically live there so you could maybe provide more personal services that would set you apart. I doubt you are going to make a ton at first but it sure sounds fun and perfect for you

What about becoming a Stroller Strides instructor (or similar)? You'd be GREAT at it and Starfish is along for the ride.

yes! You could work as a travel agent from home. The way the company that I work for works, you build all of your own business at first, so it starts out slow and you can work your way up to whatever level of work you want to do! I work for a Disney focused (and earmarked) agency, but we can still book travel to pretty much anywhere that we are comfortable with!

Do you receive any travel perks, TigerLily?

There are some! The only ones I know about are the Disney ones so I can tell you about that! Basically after you work for an agency for a certain amount of time, mine is 6 months, AND have sold a certain amount of travel (10K for my agency) you can apply for a CLIA card and then you start getting some perks. You can get free park tickets, discounted rooms, cruises and Adventures by Disney trips. You can also sign up for special tours of resorts and cruise ships!

Following as well. If I think of a good idea I'll add it. Our interests and talents overlap quite a bit so I'm curious about this for my own selfish benefit as well (although I'm many years away from Doing My Own Thing)

I forgot to add: I love coffee. I'm not an expert or anything, but I love coffee.

If I could get discount or kickbacks in the form of Adventures by Disney trips... Oh man. I'm IN.
Everyone should check out Adventures by Disney: ask for a free catalogue, and prepare to drool.

It doesn't help to recruit people, though I would love to work with you! I only get paid commission so if you ever want to book a trip through me, that would help me! Disney pays Travel Agents a certain % for booking trips, so it's always free to use a TA and you get tons of great perks like someone to make your ADRs and Fast Passes if you want, plus a customized itinerary and tips for Disney World!

So each ABD trip has a different discount after you get your CLIA card. Most of them anyway. I have been having all of my paychecks direct deposited and I am only using that money for vacations. So basically I'm just getting paid in Disney credit.
I just booked the London/Paris ABD for my MIL and it looks AMAZING!!! Seriously, I can not wait to do one. My husband thinks it hilarious that the one Im really drooling over is the central florida/Disney World one. haha! But it looks SO cool!!!
If you ever want to talk about Disney TAing you can message me on facebook or call me! I can tell you about the agency that I work for.
