  • Crossing my fingers

Ok, there are about two times in any person's career that the Most Perfect Job in The Universe appears. and I think I've found one of those times.

As most of the old-timers know, I have worked with adults with developmental disabilities (or intellectual disabilities as they're now labelled- when will people learn that a label is a label and therefore by default, offensive?) all of my life. and that I quit my job to deal with the adoption and then to be home with Nikolai. I really do love being home with him, but I really do miss having a toe in the water, as well.

Ok, I mostly love being home with him and I desperately miss having a job and money.

Anyway, I found possibly the most perfect solution- there's a training position that I found that requires 2-8 days A MONTH. and it's 75% travel just like my last job (which was really 100% travel). How FAB would that be? I could train staff AND make some money AND exercise my brain AND get a temporary break from full-time mommyhood.

So, I emailed the guy my resume and cover letter and will now obsessively check my email for the next three weeks.

Jenn - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. It sounds like a great balance. I think that would be the perfect world for most SAHM's ... a little of the outside with all of the cuddles, too.

    Keep us posted, of course.

Jenn..I'm definitely crossing my fingers for you. It sounds like a great opportunity. I certainly understand how it is possible to love motherhood and want to keep your toes in the field at the same time!

How did you find the opportunity? It sounds really great! Will your dh be available to be at home when you have to travel?

Congratulations!!!! I hope you get it. Can you give us more details while you are waiting by the phone? Do you get to pick how much travel (2 or 8 days a month?) Is that one trip or lots of little ones? Is it national or regional? Sounds so cool that something might work out. Did you find out about it from old contacts?

I found it on the website for the National organization. (AAMR)- and the funny thing is that there are resume's posted from some of my former colleagues from this last job. Not that they're even remotely looking for something as down scale as what I'm looking for. These are pioneers in the field! (it was really intimidating working with some of them-seriously there are some gifted people dedicated to bettering the lives of people with disabilities)

Ah, bummer- they're in the process of negotiating with someone for the position...

Oh well, maybe the negotiations will fall through.
