    Re: Auto Insurance

I've used State Farm since I was 16 and I've never had a problem. Right now, I use them for cars, renters ins., homeowner's contents ins., personal articles, and an umbrella policy. In fact, our State Farm agents were a huge help when we moved. Our FL agent helped us find an OH agent. The OH agent called as soon as we got to town, came to our house, signed us up, and helped us out with getting our vehicle registration transferred and with a FL DMV snafu. Also helped us with combining policies since we were newly married and DrK had been with Progressive. The FL agent still calls me every month or so to help with matters pertaining to our condo in FL and has even helped me with my Citizens policy. (Citizens is the extremely uncooperative last resort wind-storm coverage provider for hurricane prone areas. They are just miserable. Don't use them unless you must.)

Also, my folks lost a house insured by State Farm during Hurricane Andrew. State Farm was very responsive and my folks were happy with their settlement. State Farm even paid for meals out when the kitchen was unusable. Too bad State Farm won't provide windstorm coverage any more.

We had Geico for 5 years and recently switched to Erie (local PA company). Geico has been great, our rates went up about $80 for the year after my accident. I switched only because Erie offered $200 less. When I called Geico to cancel and told them why, the girl on the phone actually congratulated me on getting such a good deal and processed the cancelation in 5 minutes. The refund was direct deposited within 48 house.

We've had American Family since we moved to MN and we love them. We haven't had any claims on the cars but they were great when we had our pipe burst/flooding issues last year. I expected to change this year because I thought our car rates were to high but I was pleasantly surprised when the renewal came and it had been lowered. An attorney friend said the other day we really ought to get an Umbrella policy but I haven't done that yet.

Kinda late here but we are with Farmers. They have a physician discount!!! At least in AZ and CA they do. It made a huge difference to us when we moved to the US last year because we counted as "new drivers" so our premiums were really high.

We had a glass claim in AZ and they were awesome. Our agent here is awful though, screwing up our bills every month, charging us more than quoted. In fact I am shopping around again so this thread is super useful!

We have Geico for about 3 years and so far so good. When we looked around for car insurance they were by far the cheapest. I had to file a claim a couple days ago because a tree fell on my car during the wind storm and they were very helpful, we will see how the rest of it goes.

No. What she means is you have to have some wacky thread of a relation to military. For example, my cousin and her husband are able to use USAA b/c his grandfather was in the military 50 years ago.

I have had Geico for years and have been more than satisfied. Their customer service representatives are friendly and knowledgable. Their prices are reasonable and they offer a myriad of coverage.

                Hope this helps

I have Farmer's as well, and when I moved 45 minutes away from my old place, they jacked up the price by another 100 dollars, EVEN THOUGH I live in the same county.

Anyway, I should look into changing. My renter's insurance is through a different agency.
Can you get full/good coverage on a car that's barely 2 yrs old with Geico or Progressive?
If I were in an accident and the car totaled, I'd need it to be replaced.

                    Re: Auto Insurance

Long story short, I ended up insuring both cars with Geico because they were far cheaper than anyone else. I figured that I may as well shop around for homeowner's as well since Allstate would more than likely jack up my rate since we had 2 floods last year and now I no longer had my autos with them. I was surprised that a couple places like Geico wouldn't even quote me a rate once I mentioned the 2 claims last year. The other places were giving me rates even higher than what we already had. The last quote I got was from Farmers and I was shocked when the rate they quoted was 60% cheaper than my current Allstate one! The only catch was since I had the recent claims they would only insure me if I had at least one auto policy with them. Bad news is their auto rates are were much higher than Geico's. After crunching some numbers it made sense for us to move just one policy from Geico to Farmer's so we could get the cheaper homeowner's rate, so that's what we did. BTW, Farmer's DOES have a physician's discount that saved us a little money.
