When going from residency to fellowship or to The Job, isn't medicine the "current occupation"?

Yes but not from med school to residency. That being said, I know many of DH's classmates did deduct it but we did not because I read that as we couldn't. It wasn't DH's first job but I wasn't sure how that was defined. He worked FT out of college for 2 years but then we obviously a student again. I thought it would be defined as first job after a new degree but maybe that's not true.
Married to a Urology Attending! (that is an understated exclamation point)

We deducted them but our circumstances were a little different. Since DH was in the MD/PhD program, he was paid a small stipend that we received a W2 for every year. I considered that employment, so he essentially was looking for a new job within the same field.
