  • Will Vishenka approve?

So, I finally bought a suit for my conferences coming up. I don't know if Vishenka will approve. I can take the truth without being offended. There's still time to return it. I'm going to have to take it for alterations, but basically, this is the one I decided on:

    http://www.anntaylor.com/IWCatSectionVi ... on_Id=9811

I got it on sale. I'm not too happy about the way the back of the jacket bunches (there's a pleat or something), but I can live with it. I didn't like the 3/4 sleeve suits (on me, that is). I'm short and plump enough as it is; I don't need the suit to make me look like I'm oozing out of it.

Any ideas for shoes? I only own black ones. Go figure.

I'm not Vishenka but I approve - it looks great! You can't go wrong with much at Ann Taylor.

Thanks, Cheri. It wasn't meant as a direct question to Vishenka. Anyone can give their opinion! I'm not in love with the suit. I feel like a UPS woman in the slacks...

I think it's really cute. Hopefully the tailoring will make you feel more comfortable in it. And black suit with black shoes will work.

The suit is brown. Does that mean I still have to wear brown shoes? Or can I get away with black? I need to be comfortable (no stilletos, authentic Dutch clogs, etc) because I would prefer not to trip over anything while I'm presenting. I'm going to have to walk quite a bit too. Since I got a good deal on the suit, I'm willing to spend a bit more on shoes. (Less than $150 though, please).

No authentic Dutch clogs? You're no fun.

Like the suit! Tailoring makes everything better.

It's lovely. I'm thinking you can't wear black shoes -- someone will think you just didn't notice the suit was brown.

Well, the model looks better in it than I do (except, I don't like how the blonde one is standing there with her chest out!).

I was thinking brown too. I'm going to have to find shoes before I get the thing tailored.

                  Where is Vishenka, anyway?

PS I like the ones that Ann Taylor has on its site, but the shoes are of such low quality there. My 21 year old brother's going to kill me for this, but he worked there one summer, and told me NEVER to buy the shoes there. They'll fall apart in your hands! So, on that note, any ideas?

                      I'm a 6 1/2, regular width.

                      No polka dots?
I have thick ankles, so the closure at the ankle may not work so well.

I wear 6.5 too - too bad we don't live near each other or you could borrow one of my shoes.

                            Thanks!
So, do you think going lighter brown (than the color of the suit) is better than going darker brown? Any darker, they'd look black.

Call me crazy picky, but I don't like white stitching. I think I can do heels.

Just curious, is there a heel height limit for a suit?

I'm not one of the designated iMSN fashion gurus (Stella, Lily and Vishenka) so take what I say with a grain of salt. But I think I'd prefer a dark brown shoe with that suit; I think a lighter shade of brown wouldn't match well.

And I don't think there's really a height limit on heels with suits but I think wearing very high heels (> 4") in a business suit doesn't look very professional IMO.
