I don't know about you, but for big ticket items, my family wouldn't buy anything. My grandma bought me a car seat once b/c I had twins and only had 1 car seat-- she bought a matching one. Other than that, family and friends have bought clothes mostly, or smaller gifts. So go ahead and use your 20% coupons on big ticket items if you have them! Makes sense to me!

I never was able to ask people to donate to a fund or something like that- I think my family wants the fun of giving cute little baby clothes...
Sorry, if I put my foot in my mouth again! What I meant was that in Vishika's case she says that her mom already purchased most of her registry items. If she has the basics (such as the carseat), I would wait before buying more -- especially as many Jewish families and friends do not send gifts until after the baby is born.

BRU is pretty liberal about handing out 20% coupons so there will be more. We rushed to use ours because we didn't know that. If we had been more patient, we would have enjoyed bigger discounts later and discovered that we didn't need a lot of the stuff anyway. Some of the stuff -- for instance, the crib mattress -- will not likely be purchased for you. However, after our baby was born, we got lots of hand-me-down gear and our parents friends have sent more onsies, burp cloths, and receiving blankets than he could possibly need. It's not that we are not grateful for the gifts as it is tremendously thoughtful and kind of each of the givers to think of us. But we don't like having a lot of things that are not used when there are others that are doing without. I'd much prefer that well wishers make donations to charity or send baby clothes to Haiti where they are and will be so desperately needed.

I love the pattern! I would have bought that for my DD. I don't like the "neutral" one that we got (black, white & grey). Awesome buy!
