DH broke a plate while I was gone, and that leaves us at critical levels for dinnerware. Nearly everything we have left is chipped. I think it's time to move beyond our post-college ikea set and get a full set of something new. What are the best places to find decent, cheap dinnerware? I tend to like light, natural colored stoneware over porcelain, and a more natural/casual style over modern or traditional. Some design is ok. I'm hoping to find 16-piece sets under about $80, and the cheaper the better. I've checked around in town and found nothing, so I think online is the way to go. Suggestions?

World Market. Very sturdy stock white stuff. Far superior to Target in my hands. They also have cool stylish options if you aren't looking for "plain".Angie

I just bought a 16 piece set for the office at Targetfor $25. We have a crate & Barrell outlet near us and the prices are amazing. Plates are about $5.Luanne

We live near the Fiestaware factory. The neighbors have a HUGE collection and make routine fieldtrips to the shop. It is awesome stuff.Angie

I just bought dishes (from a hardware store no less) that was service for 12 including a couple of serving dishes for around $50 bucks after sales and rebates. I'm not particularly fond of them, but the price was right as was the number of settings (I need that many for when the entire family gets together). I also have the wedding china which is more formal that I would like as well as a set of cheap plastic dishes from Target that we use every day so the kids don't break the nicer stuff.Kris

I've had dishes from crate & barrel. They hold up well. We've had them for 12+ years & still look great and are nice and heavy. The only problem is that I've broken a few. Opps! I've also gotten a few from thrift stores. Currently I'm picking up a few pieces of Fiestaware. I too have only heard great things about it. Macys has an online sale of some of it. I just ordered a few cereal bowls that were buy one get one free. Also ordered a few glasses that are currently back ordered.Wife to Hand Surgeon just out of training, mom to two lovely kittys and little boy, O, born in Sept 08.

I really like World Market too. I love our current set (Hudson by Martha Stewart from Macy's), but they are discontinued. (Though dasterdly Martha realized they were popular and released an almost identical set later, but the pattern is different. Damn you, Martha).
Next time around, I'm going with plain white. We break stuff too often here.Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.
