DH leaned back in one of our crappy old Ikea dining chairs and cracked a joint (the chair's, not his ). They're scratched and beaten from 2 moves, I've had to nail the seats back down... basically, they need to go. Our dining table is a 100+ year old oak Empire style (I think) pedestal table. I think the chairs that would have gone with it originally were pressed-back (at least, that's what it was paired with when we bought it) and I'm not a fan of that look. Our overall style is kind of eclectic traditional. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do... I don't love the idea of buying new chairs at a furniture store, I feel like they'll look mismatched no matter what I do. So my one idea so far is to find single, mismatched chairs in different vintage/antique styles, and paint them all the same color - maybe a seaglass green or light teal or something. Thoughts? Other ideas? What styles might work? I might check out some antique and thrift stores next weekend, but I need to get a picture in my head before I start or I'll get totally overwhelmed! The table:
