• MacBook vs. MacBook Air

I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I know I'm getting another Apple. I just can't decide whether I should get a MacBook Air ($999) or a MacBook ($1299). Can anyone shed any light on why I shouldn't just go with the cheaper MacBook Air? I don't play video games and I rarely edit video. I primarily use my laptop for word processing and the Internet, with a little photo editing thrown in.

I bought a new MacBook recently and besides memory (I didn't want to delete anything), I think I would have been happier with the air. It annoys me that the MacBook doesn't have an internal disk drive.

I have the tiny Air, and I'm really happy with it. I use it for internet, word processing, and photo management (not really much editing). It barely weighs more than a tablet, so it's super easy to carry around.

It does not have a disc drive, which is occasionally annoying, but we have an external drive that I can easily plug into a usb port.

MacBook vs. MacBook Air

JDAZ11 Do you mean the MacBook doesn't have an internal disc drive or the Air?
oceanchild Is there anything that you can't do with your Air (besides the disc drive issue) that you wish you could, or that you could do with a desktop Mac?

The air doesn't, to my knowledge.

So, in my office I have a laptop and an extra monitor, meaning a lot of the time I'm working on dual screens. Because I'm used to that, it often feels like the Air doesn't have a lot of screen real estate. For example, when I'm writing a school paper I'll sometimes have the source material open and a document open next to it, and that doesn't work super well on the Air. That's the only limitation I've run into. You might see how the keyboard feels, too - I don't think it's quite full size, but it doesn't bug me.

Also, if it wasn't clear, I have the 11". Obviously you'd get more screen with the 13".

Other than lack of internal CD drive, the Air is a better choice. I'm not sure I can go back to MacBook now.

BOTH don't. So don't let that sway you toward the MacBook.

Well I should say, that mine didn't. I didn't even notice until a month after I had it. So I'm not sure if there was another option.

Well given that the Air is a couple hundred dollars cheaper, too, it seems like my answer is pretty much made. 👍
