    Jenn,

Thank you. Can I send some NWA frequent flyer miles your way so that you and Nikolai can visit home in D.C. while Rick is gone for a little comfort?

    I'm soooooo sorry.

That is a great idea! I have a bunch of extra miles sitting around that I'm not using any time soon... Jenn, if you'd like them, you're welcome to them.

You are all so sweet but not to worry, I still have a ton of United miles left from my weekly travel days.

There is a program, http://www.heromiles.org that will accept donations of miles to help the troops get home or the families to get to the troops.

              Here's the scoop:

Operation Hero Miles was created by Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger in cooperation with close to a dozen United States Airlines in October, 2003. The program allows troops stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan to fly home on leave for free. It also gives family members of wounded servicemen and women free plane tickets to visit their loved ones recovering at military hospitals across the country. Operation Hero Miles gives ordinary citizens an opportunity to help our troops in a very direct way that makes a real difference in their lives.

The program is brilliant in its simplicity. Travelers donate their unused frequent flyer miles to the Pentagon and troops. The following airlines are currently participating in Operation Hero Miles: AirTran Airways, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Midwest Airlines, Northwest Airlines, United Air Lines, and US Airways.

Donations are currently being accepted from the following airlines: Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Midwest Airlines, Northwest Airlines, United Air Lines and US Airways.

Jenn, I'm so sorry, we'll be thinking of all of you at this hard time and over the following 14 months.

Will you get a chance in the 14 months to go over and see him or for him to come home during that time?

My thoughts are with you. I remember my dad going on unaccompanied deployments for 6 or 12 months at a time.

Thank you.... and we are here for you.

He's figuring that his training in neurology won't be wasted. (and he did have to do a year of adult before the two years of child) Hopefully he'll be able to study some so he can finish the boards when he gets home.

He's upset about missing us but he's not upset about going, if that makes sense.

Does this mean his orals get delayed until his return? Are there special dispensations?

I spoke with the people at the Boards and they kindly offered that we could cough up the cash for the orals and then if he can't make it back from Iraq, they'd refund the money. OR he can take them next year. (but they're requiring copies of his orders. Who'd make this up?)

                              Jenn

Oh and in case there were any doubts, we decided that we could spend our money just as easily as the ABPN and they can kiss off until '08.
