You know this is such an interesting topic for me overall because members of the LDS church refer to ourselves as "Zion" (ie the pure in heart), and in a way we are "zionists" as well. Someone once said we are the only people on earth who refer to Jews as "gentiles". That's not exactly true, but I think you guys would be surprised at the parallels in LDS history with things happening in the world. Perhaps a great deal of the difficulty of the Israeli situation is the fact that religion is indelibly mixed into the fray. The fact is that even if we were to have the conflict over the land and the killings stopped there would still be the question of Jerusalem.

I'm not familiar with Mormon history so I will concede that point to you - I did a quick search on the Internet and that is what the documents kept quoting, for example: http://www.lds-mormon.com/tmpc.shtml

I still think it is like comparing apples and oranges. I do understand that certain histories are "forgotten" for political and economic reasons while others are front page news; however, I have never heard of any parallels such as these from anyone. I guess I agree with Kris on this one in that we should forget things that happened years and years and years ago and deal with the present and the future. If we list every injustice that has been to done to certain groups, the list will be infinite. We could start making parallels with everything - what about the lawsuit that a woman filed for trillions of dollars to placate the African-American people?

This sort of reasoning focuses the attention away from the problem.

OK, and now I really bow out.

Quote: Sorry to bow out- in all honesty I was feeling a little uncomfortable with the intensity of the discussion. I didn't expect such a strong response to my posts. Guess it's part of the game on a discussion board! Still learning how to work these things..

Well, guys.....we came, we read, we put ourselves out there and were pretty nice to each other about our differences...I say we should leave this thread feeling good.
