    Re: Black Friday, anyone, anyone

I pulled out all of the ads yesterday and was prepared to head out early this morning. As a kind of last minute gesture, I checked out amazon.com and I ended up getting good enough deals that I decided not to go out today. Also, I remember last year that the stores only had a handful of the big ticket items and there was a lot of disappointment.

You can get a $399 laptop right now at Circuit City online (Acer Aspire) . I think it is their Shop by Phone thing.

I went to the Tanger/Prime Outlets at midnight last night. BIG MISTAKE. I've never seen so many people at a store in my life. Cops where out everywhere to keep the peace. Apparently people come over from the border for the deals. People were sitting and walking everywhere with TONS of bags in hand. At Gap, half the store was the line to check out. I was told it would take several HOURS to get through the line to check out. We left. Pretty much every parking space was taken, no joke. Funny thing to me was that only like 30% of the stores there had special sales, the rest had the normal outlet deals- so what the big deal? Needless to say we aren't going again next year.

Yeah, like I'm going to take an 8 month old out shopping at midnight
Oh I saw lots. And the mama bear in me was SO mad. It was freezing outside (very unTexas like) and people had babies out, in shorts!, with a blanket thrown over them. I wished the police could ticket them for stupid parenting, poor tired, cold babies

You're in Texas? I'm in Allen --north of Dallas! I heard our outlets were a madhouse! But there were pretty good deals. Oh well, next year I'll make my mom plan her trip to Panama around Black Friday. That way my kids can spend the night with her so I can go shopping with my sister.

We did go to Target tonight. Much later than I had hoped. DH was supposed to get off at 3. He got home at 6. We don't live that far from the hospital (35 miles or so). Went to dinner then shopped at Target.

I just didn't see any sales ads that made me want to get out in the craziness today.

Maybe just me, but I didn't see anything so great this year.

I took my bil to Best Buy in the afternoon and bought the SATC collection at 50% off. Bil was excited about the deals, even if the shelves with the good deals were mostly empty!

I didn't see anything in the ads that would actually lure me to the stores. I did get an iPod nano and MacBook from Amazon. There's never usually a sale on any Apple stuff, so I was super excited to see $150 off MacBook (ended up being same as similarly loaded Dell) and $12 off iPod. No sales tax or shipping of course helped too. My laptop already shipped.

SO and I went to Best Buy at 11PM and camped out (That's right! Tent and all!) and got lots of great deals! I got a 12 bottle wine fridge for $50! How cool is that? He got a GREAT camcorder for his mom (to give as a gift to his dad) for $200 off. The best part was NO LINES at checkout because we were in the first 100 people. We ended up getting out of the store by 5:30am and we immediately went to Staples. I got $50 2G Compact Flash memory cards for $15!!! Apparently there was a limit of 1/customer but I figured I'd try anyway and I got lucky and checked out with SIX! Woot! I got a $90 shredder for $25. Free photo paper. 100 DV-R discs for $6.99. Got stuff at Target and K-Mart and Rugged Warehouse. Christmas shopping is almost done.

All that said, Best Buy was a riot. It was a BLAST and it was awful and it was exciting and crazy and disorderly. And... I can't WAIT to do it again!

(We even got on TV! There were so many reporters there!)

                        Re: Black Friday, anyone, anyone

So I told myself that I wouldn't go out at all on Friday this year...and somehow ended up at Macy's at 34th Street on Friday. CRAZY!!! The store was insane. I did get a really nice coat for 1/2 off and on my way out nearly bumped into Brooke Shields and her family coming out of Santa Land. This is my first and last time going out on Black Friday in NYC. I am still recovering.

Anyone who knows me knows I HATE to shop unless it is Home Dwepot or Lowes. My nextdoor neighbor talked me into going to Kohls with her at 4:00 a.m.
It was actually kind of fun to do it together. I bought underwear and socks for DH! Then I stood in line for over an hour while she shopped. Another friend of mine hear that I had done this and she called and said :

"OMG, I can't believe you went shopping at 4 am, what will you do next, vote Republican?"
