  • Where in your list did you match?

For anyone who would like to share it would be nice to hear at what number did people match.

This match thing is so stressful and it's hard to not get your hopes up for certain ones...

    Thank you!

I'm a little uncomfortable discussing it publicly, sorry. Not in the top three, though.

We matched at our first choice. We were sooo surprised for we had ranked 5 and I just knew we would end up with #5. I do remember that the time following our choices and the match was spent in limbo from hell. Yes, the stress was baaad. Hang in there!
Finally - we are finished with training! Hello real world!!

I don't know. I didn't see the final list... I just wanted it over with and was tired of obsessing. All I know is he didn't get his #1 choice (which was a total long shot). But...as it turned out, we couldn't have asked for a better NSG situation. We are very happy.

Have you figured out how you'll rank the programs? The integrated internship vs. the prelim programs?

              Match for residency- Number 2
              Match for fellowship- Number 1

I just want to reiterate what a total, complete, utter crapshoot the match. I've seen average candidates get their first choice and complete studs go really low or not even match at all, depending on the specialty and year. Welcome to the whims of fate of medicine.

DH ranked 20 programs, and we (fortunately) matched at our #1 choice.

#2 - We matched at our #2. We thought it was good. I think most ortho programs are just soul-sucking, evil, horrific, piles of, well, you get the idea.

#3 - the program folded. Did we dodge a bullet? I dunno. :badday: side of me says it might have been better to get out early.

                      #4 - the program folded.

We matched at #1. BUT, we have a very close friend who matched at his #7 who ended up incredibly happy, met his wife during training, and is a great doc. Another friend ended up at his #3, which served him better (IMHO) for matching into a very competitive fellowship than either his #1 or #2 would have. If you don't match at #1, all is not lost. I think it all works out in the end and firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. Good luck to you all suffering through this right now!!!

We matched at DH's #1 choice but really think we could have been happy at any of his list. He didn't rank the one program he knew he would be miserable at. Would he be as happy as he is now? Knowing now what I know about other programs probably not, but you make work what is dealt to you.

Good luck to everyone matching this year!

Ortho was brutal last year and we didn't match anywhere near the top of our list. That said, the program we are at is awesome. They are busy but, even interns take home call on ortho and for the most part it is home call. The PD and staff are great. They really care about their people and take care of them. DH loved it when he interviewed there. It was just ranked lower due to region ( I wanted to go home) and the possibility that our family would no longer be here (which they moved right before we matched). Of course the best part of matching here, is that I get to be friends with Jenn P in the flesh. So, sometimes things work out even if you don't get your #1. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Hope the match is kind to you.
