Can you donate unused drugs?

I have a bunch of drugs left over from my c-section recovery that I'm not going to finish (iron supplements, percocet, etc.). I hate to throw them away if there's a way I can donate them someplace. Does anyone know if/how I can give them away?

I know that there's a place that takes HIV drugs but I don't know about regular meds.

I was wondering the same thing the other day. I don't know if there is a way to donate but I'm sure a lot of people have medicines they won't use that someone else needs. :huh:

there is actually new legislation about this - but I don't know the ins and outs.

I would say no, I cannot imagine gtelling one of my patients that it is OK to take Rx meds from someone other than the Pharmacy (even if personally I think it is ok). The liability is too great. When patients bring back samples that I have given them and they haven't used, even if unopened, I discard them.

I don't think you can donate but you can return them to (most) pharmacy's for disposal. they can properly dispose of them so they don't end up in the environment (water, etc.).
